Phillies lose a heartbreaker in New York last night... They look to avoid the sweep tonight!
Uhhhh yeah. This series is NOT going well. The Phillies competed much better yesterday than in the first game vs the Mets but ultimately the Mets got it done in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth... off of Jhoan Durán!
It was almost an exciting comeback by the Phillies thanks to Harrison Bader's two run homer in the eighth that tied it up. But ultimately the Mets just kept battling and for Phillies fans it's just....
It was an entertaining game, but winning tends to be much more entertaining!
The Mets are gaining not only valuable ground in the N.L. East, they're only five games back now, but they are also gaining confidence which is arguably a lot more problematic for the Phillies.
BUT the Phillies did have a nice lead in the division to begin with, and so a win tonight can still prove very handy as it will push the Mets back to six games behind. This game is huge!
Taijuan Walker is on the mound, his return to being solid has been a massive blessing for this team, hopefully he can be excellent tonight with a CLUTCH outing! We need it BAD.
The offense also needs to wake up a bit too. Four runs a game on average this series isn't really going to cut it!
