Phillies lose competitive NLDS vs Dodgers. It's a wrap.

So, yeah my Phillies just lost to the seemingly inevitable force that is the Los Angeles Dodgers. They lost in fairly brutal fashion but, it really does seem like the Dodgers were the better team. I do see a universe, a scenario where the Phillies beat the Dodgers but I think 7/10 times the Dodgers likely win this series. I hate to say it.

To break down every nitty gritty detail as to what went wrong for the Phillies in this particular series would likely have me writing for days. Losing Zack Wheeler and José Alvarado wasn't exactly a great thing for the squad for example. The Phillies picked up some useful players to replace them but, still that wasn't great. Several guys like Trea Turner and Harrison Bader dealt with injuries. Nick Castellanos and Manager Rob Thomson having undeniable tension wasn't great. Then of course like I said, the Dodgers are just a well constructed team who very well could win it all again.

It was a fun season though. Another NL East Championship, and Kyle Schwarber's fun season were some fun memories I'll always appreciate for example, just off the top of my head.

I'm not really sure where the Phillies go from here. A plethora of players have expiring contracts. It feels like the end of an era to an extent. I don't predict the Phillies will become the worst team in baseball or anything and they could still be very good in 2026, but the likelihood they'll be dominant once again is seriously in question. Perhaps that's what the team needs at this point. Less pressure, less expectations. They'll still have some key guys of course. Maybe adding some fresh faces to the mix could be beneficial going forward. Time will tell.

But yeah. I can't help but have the usual sentimental, bittersweet feelings that come with the end of a season. It's a stark reminder just how difficult winning a championship can be. This isn't a video game where you can just immediately dive in to a new season, simulate games. In reality players age, players leave, as a fan in the back of my own mind it's a reminder of my own mortality. Will I ever see the Phils win another world series? Who knows.

All I can do is be appreciative at this point. I fell off for personal reasons writing about the Phillies during the playoffs but overall this was the first time I wrote about the Phils practically daily and so this is uncharted territory for me. I'll never forget the 2025 Phillies.

It will be a long off-season, 2025 is a long way's away. I mean I'm just speechless. I wrote about the guys practically all year, and I just feel out of words.

Hopefully I'll still have decades worth of Phillies baseball to watch.

I thought about you (even though I couldn't remember your name) when I saw the news of how it ended. it probably would have been fun to have it go 2-2 though.
