Phillies lose opening game vs Dodgers | Jesús Luzardo on the mound tonight
Well yesterday didn't go the Phillies' way but it wasn't totally discouraging overall. It just felt as though it wasn't their night, against an elite team as well.
Zack Wheeler had a pretty strange outing on the mound. He gave up five hits in six innings but the thing is... four of those hits were solo homers. He still got through six innings but yeah, that was obviously unfortunate. As one of the best starting pitchers in the game, Wheeler doesn't give up many runs in general. But him giving up that many homers is even more strange for him. In a way, it goes to show how solid he is that all of them were solo shots. He didn't allow extra baserunners to really take him and the Phils out of the game! He still gave the Phillies a chance.
The Phillies lack of offense recently did come back to bite them in yesterday's 4-2 loss. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, the pitching staff has really been carrying this team. I said it was ok yesterday, and I still feel that way for now. It was just one loss but, it would be nice to see the Phillies score some runs!
Kyle Schwarber hit his 22nd homer which is cool, he still leads the MLB! Newcomer to the roster, Steward Berroa, made a nice impact in his first game with the team, he recorded an RBI single. His appearance kinda came outta nowhere, he's apparently a strong defensive outfielder and a switch hitter with incredible speed and base stealing upside. He looks to be an overall upgrade over Otto Kemp.
Lots of sports tonight! It would be cool to see the A's and Phillies win over their major market opponents! I'm a Sixers fan of course, but I'd also prefer to see the Spurs win tonight over OKC in their epic Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals Series!
But of course as always...
#GOPHILLIES!!!
