Titans set to play season opener @ the Broncos!!!
I am so excited to actually watch some Titans football. THANK GOD I am here for another season! The Titans are my favorite professional sports team, period. I am just so glad to see the guys do battle tomorrow. Life is so stressful throughout the year but these 18 weeks are just the perfect antidepressant sometimes.
I have been so antsy about this game and all the games in general, that I've found it hard to even calm down, sit and type this post. There have been two games already but, nothing beats a WHOLE NFL Sunday. This is the closest thing to Christmas Eve I'll get as an adult LOL.
This afternoon at 4:05 EST Titans are set to begin what can hopefully become the start of a new era of successful winning football. This is the freshest start the team has had in ages. The team did not try to do a 'bridge QB' type of situation to improve the team. They drafted a rookie QB, seemingly the best QB in the draft with the first overall pick in Cam Ward. The team has developed a good offensive line over the years. 41 year-old Brian Callahan not only gets his second season as the team's head coach, but it's also his second season ever as an NFL head coach. Callahan begins this second season with a rookie quarterback he was actually a part of drafting and he gets the added benefit of knowing the whole roster for a full year and how it has changed during this past off-season. The Titans drafted nine new rookies in this past draft with new General Manager in Mike Borgonzi.
The Titans have had these many recent changes and more. The potential of this team feels high but ultimately it's a complete unknown and that's what just adds more excitement in general to this new season. At this point in my life, I'm just gonna enjoy watching the team grow. I find it hard to believe they'll be nearly as bad as last year but I will assume the worst until well, I see actual improvement LOL.
So that's kinda why this year feels different. The Titans could transform as team till like 2040 if all goes well. Tomorrow offers hope and I'm just going to enjoy the feeling while I have it!
The Broncos are a very good team and winning will be not be easy. I think I'll be satisfied if the Titans play with minimal mistakes, and don't lose by more than a touchdown. The Broncos made the playoffs last season and their fans are going to be loud! The Broncos are a well coached, hardnosed team. Sean Payton is a super experienced coach, Vance Joseph is an excellent defensive coordinator and they have a second year QB on the rise in Bo Nix.
Ultimately, expectations are obviously to win, and I think it's possible but I have literally not seen this new Titans team play. The Broncos are proven and playing at home.
So yeah I am just happy and hopeful the Titans compete, if they win it will be pretty shocking! BUT LET'S GO TITANS, I hope they dominate at the end of the day!
I'm very excited to see Cam Ward play, he'll be rocking the #1 like Warren Moon baby! Rookie wide receiver Elic Ayomanor is slated as a starting receiver and seems slated as the WR3 entering the season behind Calvin Ridley and Tyler Lockett, I'm excited to see what he's got. Rookie tight end Gunnar Helm is labeled TE2 and I think he may have a rather sizeable role in this offense. He will be a live target and deepen Cam's receiving options, in a perfect world. I think Helm has got great potential.
With RB2 Tyjae Spears injured once again, it looks like Tony Pollard will be used a lot but I think the Titans are going to use a second running back more often than they did last season. Fourth year running back Julius Chestnut will probably see a good amount of touches with Spears out. Chestnut has always had potential but has barely been used. Chestnut came from a small school in Connecticut and despite barely seeing the field ever as a pro, the Titans always kept him around. He's a powerful, athletic type of running back. I'm hoping he plays well!
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. had a really good rookie season at CB, hopefully he has another good year! I'm also hopeful about second year nose tackle T'Vondre Sweat after his excellent rookie season.
I had higher hopes for inside linebacker Cedric Gray in his rookie season last year but apparently he's improved enough that he is listed as a starter entering his second season! This surprised me for sure. I'm curious about new veteran inside linebacker Cody Barton and what his impact might look like. Barton has established himself as a defensive leader and will likely be calling defensive plays. I think his intelligence and leadership will be huge for this defense!
Long time strong safety for the Titans Amani Hooker just signed a three year extension! I believe that the contract will expire after his tenth season as a Titan! Although it could be after his ninth. I think it's his tenth but either way it's pretty cool that despite all the changes, there's still a few guys who have been on the team while. Hooker was on the Titans when the team went to the playoffs three years in a row in 2019-21. I think only Simmons, and Hooker remain from those teams!
This will be a big challenge, but I'm SOOOO EXCITED! LET'S GO!!
