Rising Star Meme #31 - BEWARE OF SCAMS + Ways to Avoid them

meme31.png

I can's stress this enough, just

DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS

The world is filled with people trying to make money through scamming others, and the crypto world is no different - it's even worse.

If you've been in crypto for a while, then this kinda stuff isn't particularly new to you. But if Hive is your first crypto experience and/or you haven't encountered these scams before, it's a good time to get a little bit educated and avoid being scammed out of your money.

A Little Background

So what triggered this post was that a couple of days ago, fams in the Discord (and Discord is the main way the scammers conduct these kinds of scams) started receiving DMs about winning Ethereum - which is totally BS.
(Like what kind of sensible business gives away 30 Grand to each person to promote their product? And even if they did that, I don't think anyone would spend a single dollar of that on the product they're offering - not the point here, but I'm just saying)

How to Prevent being targeted?

Disable Direct Message from Server Members

Here's how you can do it:

  • First, click on "Rising Star Game"

  • Then choose "Privacy Settings" from the pop-up.

  • Un-check the "Allow direct messages from server members." and click "DONE".

  • And that's it! Server members can no longer DM you unless they are your "Friends" or send a Friend Request first and get accepted.

Note: I don't have it disabled since I want newbies to be able to reach out to me if they got questions or anything else. But, that's just a matter of personal preference.

Don't Forget to Report the bots

If you have decided not to disable the DMs and you are receiving this kind of spam, don't forget to click the "Report Spam" button. (currently, I don't have a picture as I report them right away, but it's a red button that stands out - you can't miss it)

Conclusion

Have your walls up at all times when you're surfing the internet. Stay vigilant and don't click on any fishy links. No one is so generous in the crypto world (even the world) to send you tens of thousands of dollars for free.

Great meme, thanks for sharing the tutorial on how to prevent other accounts from sending messages and spam on discord. I'm sure many people will find this useful because, in today's world, we are overloaded with spam every step of the way when we join a new server.

Exactly! It's sad to see so many scams ruining crypto's already 'taken-a-hit' reputation. What's even sadder is that many DO fall for these. Looking forward to a future where these scams are nowhere to be found...
