There's a chocolate bar here in the UK called the Double Decker. It used to be a monster-sized chewy chocolate and nougat bar with crunchy crispy bits, named after the double decker bus common in large towns. Then it was hit by shrinkflation, not once but twice. We joke that the first round turned it into a single decker, and now it's been reduced to being a shortbus....

My goodness, it's like they're taking away everything that we admired in the past. This Christmas I couldn't get chocolates and cookies. I thought it would be enough so I was sharing it and by the time I realized, it was finished. Most of these chocolate bars have reduced so significantly that the big ones today are the mini bars of yesterday

Apparently there is a global shortage of cocoa beans. I'm not sure if it's just an excuse by corporate chocolate manufacturers to change the formulae to pad the product out with cheaper ingredients, or if there really is a shortage. Or perhaps it's a "growers won't accept insultingly low prices for the raw materials" kind of shortage as the corporates try to squeeze the farmers (who of course respond not by accepting less, but by shifting to more profitable crops).

I'm think growers kind of shortage but could be both. They always find a way to blame the raw materials for making price changes 😅
