At the time, automation wasn't really an option as it is an inevitability today.

But, yes, you are correct, less than 20% of us will ever experience work in the way folks 'work' today, but they will do it because that is their thing to do.

We need less than 25k hours of 'work' out of each of us to live in abundance.

We don't need to account for the energy We add.  Between automation and the 80%+ now who just push money around, We will need about 10% - maybe less - doing the creative necessary work.

And surely We will see more than that willing to do the creative stuff for the social currency They receive - the appreciation, lauds, fame, etc.

Any couch potatoes - which will be very few, as most couch potatoes today are so because They cannot afford to do what They would love to do and therefore have no motivation - can be couch potatoes if They choose, but They will earn no positive social currency and might earn scorn, disgust, etc., or...  Not...

We will not worry much whether any given One is doing anything.  We will be busy doing what We love to do.
