The last bus stop : part 2

On my last blog, I was writing about my Dred locks journey and I tittled it the last bustop part 1.

Today I am going to be writing a continuation of that post and I’d start by how I ran into the guy who claimed he had an idea of how to lock hairs and I willingly submitted my hair to him and that was how the tales of my woe began. He put all manner of things on my hair from tooth paste to cocoa powder all in a bid to get it locked. We used foam for rolling it and after one month nothing was happening. The we decided to use rope to tie in with all that mixture still in it saying that by the time I carried it for like two months. It would have locked and then I would wash off my hair. Well, after two months of waiting and hoping, I finally washed off all the terrible mixture of my hair and my hair was back to normal. No locks anywhere. I comb it out and got back to square one.

I was still comtemplating on what to do when I saw one of our church girls carrying Dred. She wasn’t on Dred earlier and I had to go to her to ask how she was able to lock her hair as I relayed to her the ordeal that I had been through. She told me her own tale and it was so easy and smooth. I had to plead with her to show me where she did hers and I went there and started my Dred journey.

After what I had been through, one would think that everything would have been fine but that was just the beginning of another tale of woe. The guy that started my Dred was supposed to give it foundation and arranged it in a way that it can be easily styled but he didn’t. He just did a haphazard work and that led to a problem with the styling. Apart from that, anytime he locks my hair, I do not see my scalp well. His work wasn’t neat at all but I thought it’s the best it can be as he would always come up with excuses as to why it can’t be very neat and how he was the best and that I can’t get a better service else where.

Well, one day I came to lock my hair and he wasn’t in the shop. I called him on phone and he said he was far away and that I should let his colleague lock the hair. Well, on hearing this I wasn’t happy as I don’t like many people touching my hair and I prefer to stick to one stylist. Well, the other colleague finally convinced me that he would do a good job and I had to let him to the locks and guess what? He was far better than the other guy. For the first time, I saw my scalp and it was great but that was also because the guy trimmed my hair and even the scalp while locking. I was happy for the change but this too was wrong. But what do I know.

That was how I switched to the new guy. My Dred looked better but the constant trimming was taking its toil on my hair and the styling wasn’t coming out right too because the first guy didn’t give foundation to the locks. So we had to look for an option to make the locks fatter and he suggested I join the locks two two and some three as some of them was tiny. I asked how we could join it and he said sewing them with threads but this too was wrong but what do I know.

We arranged for a day and I went and got the hairs all joined together with threads. I was kinda worried that the threads are showing but he asked me not to worry that it’s ok. Well, I had no choice because I don’t even know about it but that was wrong too. He wasn’t supposed to use threads to join the dreds. There is a way to join it without threading them. Maybe he doesnt know or just maybe it was too difficult for him and he didn’t want to stress himself that much but it was part of my woes on my Dred lock journey.
