Blade: Trinity (2004) was a great finale to an iconic film trilogy!

SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Well this was a huge improvement over Blade II! Blade II had it's strengths but I can confidently say it's ranked third in this trilogy.

Blade: Trinity is first of all an awesome title LOL.

The main bad guy in this one was literally Dracula which is pretty awesome. His involvement really elevates Blade's aura in general. A modern iconic vampire meeting the most iconic vampire. It's pretty amazing. It's kind of way cooler than many Avengers scenarios really. Just an amazing clash of time periods too. I feel like the actor Dominic Purcell played his role as Dracula pretty well, his intensity and toughness was very cool.

The more open involvement of humans, even though they're basically pawns for the vampires, is pretty fascinating to me. Vampires are powerful but they are ultimately low in numbers. There's obviously a ton of humans and they can work well as a team when they want to. I don't know, I think society and stories often love to sort of claim how dumb and ignorant humans are and how we are oh so tragically flawed. It's cool to see humans not be pushovers in films like these sometimes. Although Blade himself strives to protect humans so there's that of course, he does value humans and whatnot. I don't know just a bit of a side tangent I guess.

Basically Dracula (they call him Drake) is brought back to life by some naughty vampires as he's basically been asleep for hundreds of years. The idea is once again to take out Blade and for vampires to take their rightful place as the rulers over humans and whatnot. Specifically they plan to basically keep humans sedated and farm their blood en masse.

Honestly, I like the plot. Dracula vs Blade. Taking over the world via blood farms is indeed a wicked threat. All in all it was just very spooky. The action was a lot more consistent and spaced out evenly than Blade II as well, while still having an epic ending.

The soundtracks in each of these movies was excellent. I think the music in Blade: Trinity may have been executed the best.

The ending fight scene between Blade and Drake was absolutely awesome. It was epic, violent, and brutal. In the end when Blade managed to get the engineered, lethal virus into Drake it was pretty fascinating how Drake says he basically respects Blade and that Blade will be the one in the end to keep the vampires alive going forward. As Drake dies he eventually basically shapeshifts to appear as Blade for a final time as they lay there to bamboozle the police. When Drake is taken by officials appearing as Blade, Drake's body then transforms back into Drake therefore clearing Blade's name who at the time was wanted as an insane murderer.

I mean, that whole ending from the fight, to the thought provoking ending was really pretty deep. Drake showed unexpected wisdom and even a weird version of kindness to Blade. Drake basically saw that, through Blade his people will carry on. At one point, Drake straight up said he respects how Blade fights. It makes me think Drake was intrigued by being awakened to eliminate Blade.

I think Drake knew Blade was different the minute he was summoned by the naughty vampires. Drake didn't like modern vampires so I imagine if there was some threat to them, he was probably curious about it. I think he was happy Blade existed. In a way, I feel that Drake was testing Blade and knew a new era of vampire was arising and Blade would be the new original vampire as Dracula was himself. I wonder how Drake really felt about Blade caring about humans. He probably thought it was silly, but he must have had some deeper thoughts on it. The fact that Blade was a hybrid and was able to best him in combat AND the fact that they could both daywalk must have made him think a bit.

The whole Blade-Drake dynamic is deeper than it appears frankly. Pretty wild. Obviously Dracula definitely did several unforgivable things, I'm not saying he's some cool dude at all. But I'm just saying he's not as simple of a bad guy as it seems initially. This whole gritty respect and honor through combat perspective definitely gives me Cirque Du Freak vibes.

Besides the final fight scene, there's one scene in particular had me on the edge of my seat for some reason. It's mostly your run of the mill chase scene, but there's aspects to it that had me amped!

The chase scene blends your average action movie chase scene with the fact that they are supernatural beings. They're making massive jumps, running intensely. Drake is literally running through walls. But what got me most was the music throughout this chase. For whatever reason this simple track made the chase SUPER intense. Knowing they are legendary vampires helps too. Also, this chase is happening in the DAYTIME. Sheesh! That aspect really amplifies that these two are indeed iconic. That's when I knew Drake was built different. They eventually have a discussion on a rooftop and it's pretty cool. Drake himself points out how he's the original vampire and therefore he's unique. He says it in a rather mysterious way that again makes me think Drake is low-key mind blown by Blade, like there's similarities between them...

The whole scene was just shot really well. YouTube quality doesn't really do this scene justice fully but yeah.

Drake was basically stronger than Blade which was interesting. Blade would have lost their fight, but Blade was working as a team and had the power of the virus on his side. Drake could withstand daylight, shapeshift, and basically become this wild looking sort of raw beastly vampire thing. It looked CRAZY and cool.

Man, I just really liked this one. I think it's just as good as the original. The only thing that did bug me was how his sidekick humans could hold their own in hand to hand combat vs vampires? They did have weaponry and gadgets but not always. Meh, I suppose it made the movie more exciting.

Sheesh, I am grateful to have been able to watch these movies again. Who knows when I'll watch these again! Life is short and chaotic. I may be a much older man before I get around to watching these again, who knows. That's the funny thing about your favorite stories, or doing your favorite things I guess. Time just has no mercy.

I'll say this was just as good as the original.

Blade: Trinity gets a 9.5 out of 10

Maybe that's a hot take, I don't care!

So the trilogy overall gets a 9.29/10 for me!
