RE: My dCrops Return On Investment - Worth it?

Wow! This is the first time I've seen anyone break down the numbers. I have no idea what I have into this game but it's far less than what it's now worth. I was fortunate enough to buy 125? of the Alpha Packs right before they sold out. I only opened 50 of them and have been holding the rest for the daily HIVE rewards. I get about .3 HIVE/day, although I've probably averaged closer to .35 since it's come down from what it was when I first got in.
My original goal was to just farm and not spend any more on the game and just see what it turned into. For the most part, I've stuck to that plan, although I've gone on a couple 10-20 HIVE spending sprees to try and maximize my plots.
As far as income goes, we'll say .33 HIVE/day average for almost a year now (we'll say 300 days to make the numbers easy). That's 100 HIVE from the daily pool. My seasonal CROP average is around 2500 since I've amassed @54k CROP over 20 seasons. It's been higher since I did the buys though so it's probably closer to 3k/season going forward. According to LeoDex my CROP is currently worth $66.87 so dividing that by the current HIVE price of $.413 that's another 162 HIVE.
That means I'm collecting approximately 13 HIVE every season, or almost 1 HIVE per day. I'll take it. As for those resources, I think either you're getting very lucky or I'm getting very unlucky (probably the latter since I always seem to be unlucky) because I had 24 chests for the last two seasons and only managed to get 5 common resources total. I just crossed 200k in holding rewards value so I'll be getting 25 chests upon completing my next quest. Hopefully the drop rate will go up for me. Either way, I like the bonus.
I have 458 common seeds. 140 rare. 32 Epic. 21 Legendary. I remember buying a few legendary but I'm pretty sure they were around 20-25 HIVE at the time. But, that said, I'm pretty sure I spent at least 200-250 HIVE to get them. So, my investment is probably higher than I think. On the other hand, I was using HIVE I paid 30 cents or less for at the time so...dollar wise, I feel like I'm probably doing pretty well.
For land, I've got 24 Average, 26 Fertile, 5 Awesome, and 2 Hi-Tech. That works out to 99 plots I can fill each month. I haven't quite maxed any of them out yet although I'm close on one of the seasons.
I'm too tired to do all the math but, judging by your numbers, I'm happy to see that this has likely been a very good investment which will hopefully continue to bear fruit ( or vegetables, as it were) for years to come.
My ultimate goal is to just continue to find ways to accumulate daily HIVE as I think at some point it will blossom and trade over $20. It would be nice to be getting 20 HIVE a day in liquid HIVE when that day comes. I've got a long ways to go but...between Splinterlands, dCity, and dCROPs, I'm getting there.

Yeah, I was commenting on someone dCrops post and I realized I didn't really know anything about how the games economy was working out for me. I'd never seen anyone break it down either so I decided to crunch the numbers and post it. Glad I did.
I really wish I'd gotten in on those alpha packs earlier like you did. I'd just put so much into Splinterlands and a new game seemed like a really slippery slope.
When i finally made the choice to go grab some (was going to buy 200) they were sold out. I also have zero will power to hold onto packs so even the ones I bought on the secondary I eventually opened. Lowered my rewards massively when I did so I went and bought more and then I opened those too !LOL
It sounds like you've done way better than me and I'm pretty thrilled with my progress so congrats on that.
I am actually writing another post now about the fact that my DEC earnings are spiking again and I'm not sure what to do with it. There are so many options and realizing this about dcrops just opened up another one.
I want to focus more on building up my hive stake too. Whenever I have swap.hive in my account it always feels like money to spend on other tokens and I never end up just building up my hive stake. Maybe its time fr that. I don't really have any price expectations for it but I'd like to have more. I spend enough time here.

Yeah, I got a little lucky on timing. I was just getting into Splinterlands when it was blowing up and decided I better take the chance to grab some packs of this while they were still available. As for opening them, I'm usually with you in not being able to stop myself but the daily HIVE rewards has kept me disciplined. I was originally going to keep 100 for 200k holding rewards points and then open one every time I got another 2000 CROP but it was slow going at the beginning so I opened another 25 to boost my season activity. I've just now crested the 200k again but I think I'll keep holding them and see what happens with the BETA packs. If they do well then I think the ALPHA packs will probably increase in value.
It's all about HIVE for me. I'm just trying to build a passive income. HIVE and HBD together could eventually be a significant income stream so I'm trying to build while the building is good. I could be wrong but it just feels like this place is one of the few places continuing to build and add value. Hopefully the rest of the crypto world agrees at some point and it can trade at much higher levels.
As for dCROPS, it seems like they have a good thing going. With the built-in power of the HIVE community as a market, if they can keep improving and expanding, it could end up being a nice little niche game people can make a little money with in perpetuity. Nothing wrong with that!

I think I opened a hi tech land early on and that was it for me trying to hold the rest of the packs. I needed to know if there was more of that in there. There wasn't.
dCrops right now just seems like a visual representation of investing in crypto. Stake your assets, claim your rewards. I would love to see a bit more behind it in terms of game play but the concept is great and farm games are a proven popular genre.
I think beta will do well though. Packs are already like 9 hive each and I think they started at 2. I don't know if there's enough liquidity out there to drop 75 on the market but there will be if they can create more game mechanics.
I really just want more to do with the crops. If we had some choices other than just turn them in for crop I think it would go a long way.
My other chain I invest in the most is algorand and they are building payment rails for countries amongst other things.
To me, hive is more building things for the hive but I tend to miss a lot of what goes on around here even though I'm here all the time. Is there anything you see hive building right now that bridges hive into real world applications or is it something else that attracts you to it?
Well, Leo keeps bridging into different chains. It's not HIVE but it basically is since transactions are free between them. The thing I'm most looking forward to right now is HAF. That is supposed to be implemented with the next hard fork. It will provide devs the ability to write and create in their own code and HAF will handle connecting it to the blockchain. That is where I think you could see a lot of new applications created that will start tapping into the mainstream. It's all a process. I just think HIVE is doing it the right way. They continue to build infrastructure and expand the userbase. It's not exponential or anything at this point, but I think that day will come. And, contrary to many of the chains out there right now that hype everything and then fail, HIVE just continues to develop one step at a time so when the hype does finally find it's way here, the blockchain should be able to handle it.
Who knows? I may be wrong, but that's just how it seems to me. We've already gone through a lot of adversity and it keeps coming out the other side better and more resilient.
Thanks for your thoughts. That's also why I like algorand. A lot of people are upset because they don't hype themselves up. They just keep building, scaling, and making it easier to build on top of. They now do more transactions that ethereum, they are faster and it costs a fraction of a penny per transaction.
I really want to see HAF in action. I think that Psyberx and leo are building bridges and getting people interested. I think games are always going to be the single biggest draw to hive and that's fine with me. There's a lot of potential. I think I'd feel better if the social layer had more than a few thousand active members though.
I realized today I could probably sell all my Splinterlands cards and buy a quarter million hive at these prices. That's crazy. However, it'd be a wash. My rental income is about the same as I could earn from curation rewards. Still a cool dream and one I might kick myself for not doing if hive ever gets (and stays) at around $20. That's one of those things about crypto right now though that will hopefully change. Its real exciting for like a month and then its all worth pennies. But we keep dreaming of a day when our lofty price goals are both met and sustained. !LOL
