A Motto. A Drive.

The actions of people could be judged based on mere momentary decisions. Mostly when it seems like they just did those things. What I consider rather is that, there's a place of mindset in shaping us and making us do most of the things we do. That we do some things, with little or much effort or concern is a reflection of what has been a calibration of our minds and attitudes. How we relate with life; through the things we do or not do, how we execute such things, the way we live life and more are a function of what drives us.

Such a thing that drives us is our motto. Inherently or not, this makes up most of our actions and responses to life's situations. And I think it's important for everyone to have something like that; a motto, that checks their attitudes and defines them or what they wish to achieve. If organisations have a motto, I don't think it's out of place for a human with a greater purpose and greater worth to be devoid of any.

Part of the words of the famous Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in one of his renowned speeches left me with something to walk with as a drive in life. It was a clear definition of what I needed as I sojourn on this earth. Those particular words that got me were “...whatever you do, keep on moving.” Certainly, there's a need to keep on moving. Putting this together with teachings from the scripture has been a major drive for me in life. I've seen situations that felt like, it's just over. So, why not sit, relax and accept this failure?

Remembering these words leaves me with no choice but to keep moving. Here's the intriguing part. “Keep on moving” doesn't apply to setbacks alone for me. But that even when I make or I'm making progress, there should still be the desire to keep moving forward. Relevance and greatness come from learning to grow beyond one's current state or achievements, but constantly developing and moving towards a greater height. That particular drive is something I find helpful in my professional field, skills and life as a whole.

Talking about skills, another drive stands as well, in close relationship with the aforementioned motto. This is mostly connected to my skill, but it applies to more than that. “Stay with it, till the result or idea comes.” That's it. Yesterday, I was working on a design. It was giving me a kind of difficulty and I had limited time, with other tasks and duties lined up after it. I felt like leaving it because the idea wasn't coming forth; not as much as I would appreciate. Later on, I came up with something nice and okay.

Afterwards, the words echoed, reminding me that, though I wasn't seeing the result I wanted, instead of leaving, I stayed with it till the idea and intended result came. This ever-helping drive brings to light the need for resilience and perseverance. I've seen it play out well within my creative life. But as a whole, it has had an effect on other areas of my life. Talk of academics, business matters, and even writing here in Hive, which can be quite difficult on some days. The words emphasise the need to push through till ideas and intentions become reality.

One of the most tragic thing about most humans is that we keep stalling, like we are waiting for something to come through for us before we take an action or make a move. It proves how we humans often take time for granted, the amount of time we spend refusing to move forward only deprives us of what we could have been.

That's true. If only we'll learn to move as time moves.
Thank you.

There are times and seasons for everything but most times we have to push ourselves beyond our limit and get out of our comfort zone to be the best version of ourself
