When The River Stops Flowing

As a writer, there is always that point when one battles with lack of idea during writing. The same you that used to write like a pro, all of a sudden is struggling to put a sentence down.

Writing that used to take you thirty to forty minutes is now taking hours and surprisingly, after struggling to put down all that your brain was able to supply, you check the word count and it's just two hundred word, haha.

I had that experience just yesterday, I woke up full of hope and energy, I even purposed in my heart to write atleast three different articles but guess what? i took my phone and cracked my brains and nothing came forth.

If you observe my blog yesterday, I only made one post on actifit which was about my day.

Writer's blog can be so frustrating and challenging, some times it makes one doubt his/her ability to write. You suddenly feel like you are not good at what you do but hey, it's part of the writing journey.

It's so unfortunate, that some people experience this so often that they quite writing completely. But I feel it doesn't have to be so, there is a tough moment in everything in life.

No matter how good one is at something, there will be days when those things will be difficult. Quitting just because it isn't working isn't the best idea. I believe that any soldier who quites when the battle is tough and returns only when things are easy is not fit to be called a warrior.

Am I saying that we should force ourselves to write even when everything seems blocked? No, if you try all you can and it's not working, please let it be. Forcing things will make you create poor contents and that will bring a bad reputation.

Personally, there used to be days when I give up and let some topics go, but that is when I have tried everything and I can't come up with anything. Unless it is something mandatory, like an assignment or a project that is very important, if not, at that point, I say “bye, bye.”

Experiencing a writer's block can be so annoying but it is not a death sentence as there are ways to overcome such moments in writing.

Although it works differently for everyone, what works for one person might not work for another. But the good news is if you are able to find your own method, you will also be able to conquer it. For me, the methods i use are;

Take a break: from experience, some of the things that causes me to experience a writer's block include; stress, anxiety, pressure, and distraction.

so, whenever I am facing a writers block, i take a break. You can't give out so much when you mind is not in one place.

During this break period, I take a walk listening to music. When I am back, I take my bath, eat then sleep. When I wake up, I try to write again.

Sometimes, this method work. As soon as I begin to write again, ideas begin to flow until I decide that I want to stop.

Make research: it is common to face difficulty when writing on a topic you are not conversant with. Topics like that can be challenging and cause one to struggle to come up with something.

Most times, what I do in situations like this is to carry out a research. Sometimes, even if it is a topic I know but am not able to write something reasonable, I take my time to do a proper research then create my own out of it.

This method works so well for me, I hardly make a research on a topic then end up not having what you write in the end.

Watch a movie: they say “all work without play makes Jack a dull boy.” Sometimes, movies are my solution.

When ideas stop coming, I shut down everything and watch movies. During that period, my brain calms down and when I begin to write again, ideas come.

Like is said, it works differently for everyone, this might not work for everyone. One thing I know is there is always a way to solve every problem, all you need to do is pay a close attention to the method that works most for you and leverage on it.

The thing about writing is that, it doesn't always have to topical, which is the reason most writers experience writer's block, especially hive bloggers.

Humans are emotional creatures, we get moody a lot. At that moment you are experiencing a writer's block, it might not be because you don't have ideas to pen down, it is just that at that moment your mind is not willing to contribute to the topic you have chosen.

Whenever you experience writer's block, don't try to write on a topic but write what you are feeling, write out frustrations, don't try to control, just let flow out. It might be gibberish at first but after you are done poring out what you are feeling at that moment, then you can come back, edit it and give it a befitting topic.

Believe me, you will surprised, when you see the master piece you have crafted without making any effort.

Music and movies also works for me too, it helps me control my thoughts and also assist in coming up with good ideas.

This is rich.

Most times it's about our emotions. its best we write based on what we are feeling, rather than force something else out of our brains, if we go based on what we feel, the flow would be without obstruction.

Thank a lot for this great piece boss
