I may be going down the same pathway as you with respect to my laptop. I've had my laptop for a substantial period of time, and now it's starting to do crazy things. For example, its screen flickers periodically. I have a desktop computer also, but I don't want to connect it up to the Internet, because I use it to compose novels and I don't want anyone having any way to hack into it to steal my literary work.
Maybe you could switch places with them?
Or export your books to usb storage and load them when you are ready to work with them?
No, I have the XP Professional system on my desktop computer. Therefore, I'm probably simply going to have to purchase a new laptop computer somewhere in the not-too-distant future to replace my other laptop computer. My desktop computer is actually older than my laptop computer, and it has never really given me any problems. Of course, I perform software maintenance on it regularly, so that makes a difference. I do so on my laptop computer too, but I think that being online puts more wear and tear on its software and hardware. I'm always extra careful with my desktop computer when I'm using it.
