My Feature As A Wedding Guest

On Saturday, i almost forgot that weekends are for celebrations. When I woke up I quickly remembered someone sent an invitation to me for her wedding at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, 73 Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

I quickly prepared myself, scrolling online to know the colors of the event; gold, white, and other combinations made the day colorful. I called my wife and my son, telling them we are going together. She didn't hesitate; we stepped out beautifully and boarded a keke for the ride of a short distance. We got to the church even before the wedding started. It has been a while since I saw a simple but powerful wedding of young people.

About , the minister in charge called for the service to commence. According to their doctrine, the groom and groomsmen were ushered in with solemn hymns. The groom and the best man were seated in the position that the conductor of the wedding pointed to them. It was then time to bring in the bride; at this time, a contemporary and danceable chorus was raised, and the whole church rose to celebrate the arrival of the bride, with her father holding her with his right hand, and then the bridesmaids and aseobi ladies lined up to spice up the moment. I enjoyed every part of the service. Different singing groups ministered in songs, prayers were said, and the act of marriage was done by the officiating ministers.

They were reminded that marriage is an institution that should not be entered unadvisedly. The minister, gave time to see if there was any impediment found on each other, which would have put the wedding on hold, but none was mentioned. I saw the celebration among the congregants; no one in the church confessed to anything that could hinder the progress of the wedding. The minister then advised that if no one speaks, they should forever remain silent.

Vows were exchanged between the couples, and rings were worn. They then proceeded to sign all legal documents in the marriage “ACT” of the Nigerian government. During the homily delivered by the preacher, the couple and the church were reminded that marriage is about “love that can only be separated by death… Stay and remain with your partner for better or for worse". I didn't join them at the reception, as I was engaged with other activities. I met with old and new friends. It was a wonderful moment.

Lessons from the event.

  1. Marriage is about love that can only be separated by death.

  2. The wedding ceremony is another moment for old couples to renew their marital vows.

  3. Plan wedding within your budget. Don't loan money.

What are the lessons that you learned during the wedding celebrations?

Thank you all for reading.
