Our folk art that survives in a corner of the railway station

There is a strange magic in the village market and market that takes us back to our childhood amidst the mechanical hustle and bustle. That day, I encountered just such an experience at Joydevpur Railway Station. On the way back from the station, I saw a gentleman sitting with some beautiful hand-woven baskets. Looking at those baskets arranged on the ground made my heart feel better.

Nowadays, there is no shortage of plastic items in our homes, but the aesthetics of these traditional cottage industries are completely different. They are usually seen more in our rural towns. These beautiful baskets or baskets are made by twisting palm leaves with utmost compassion. The geometric designs that have been created with touches of green and pink in between the weaving are truly admirable.

At one time, these were essential for storing fruits in the homes of rural Bengal or for organizing cooking utensils. The joy of buying new baskets from the fair was different. Now, in the hustle and bustle of the city, these have become quite rare. Visiting this folk art fair in a corner of the station is not just about buying some products, but also about rediscovering a rural tradition that is about to disappear.

Behind these simple things lies the hard work and love of rural artisans. In the midst of the plastic glut, these eco-friendly local products can not only make our living rooms more aesthetic, but also sustain the wheels of the rural economy. This combination of tradition and modernity reminds us of our roots.
