Captain Jack Pilsner

Sit right back and I will tell ya a story about Captain Jack!

Well this is not the tale of Captain Jack Sparrow but rather the legend of Captain Jack James!

Take yourself back to the 20th day of May in the Year of Our Lord 1775. Word had recently arrived to the backwoods of North Carolina of the slaughter of American Patriots at the Battles of Lexington and Concord by the British Army.

Incensed by these deadly deeds, the American Patriots gathered and declared that Mecklenburg County in the Colony of North Carolina was hence forth Free and Independent of British Rule!

Being a Rebel comes easy to me and mine, and in that fine Family tradition, I rebel against the Academic Industrial Complex!

Knowing that all great lessons in life can be found simply by reading a beer can or in this case the label of a beer bottle.

So take a sip of whatever bitter brew you are drinking and let's carry on with today's Legend of Captain Jack James.

So on the 20th Day of May in the Year 1775, the good citizens of of Mecklenburg County signed what would be later referred to as the Declaration of Mecklenburg.

The only problem was these folks lived so far on the edge of the Empire that no one would take little heed nor remember what had been done.

So after many sips from bitter cups of brew the good folks of this backwoods community were drinking, it was decided that this Declaration needed to be entered into the Official Record of the Continental Congress.

As fortune would have it, the Continental Congress was at that very moment meeting in Philadelphia, in the Colony of Pennsylvania.

As misfortune would have it, Philadelphia was in fact hundreds of miles away and the roads were swarming with British patrols.

If the British ever caught the man carrying the Declaration, he would surely be hung by the nearest tree. Only the bravest or the stupidest among them would ever venture the dangerous journey.

While lesser men hemmed and hawed, sipping upon their tankers of ale, the Captain of the local militia, Jack James, stepped forward to volunteer to take the perilous journey from North Carolina to Philadelphia.

Perhaps, Captain Jack was a dumb ass, but have you ever noticed that the World is often changed by a bunch of dumb asses who just have had enough crap for one life time?

It doesn't hurt if these particular dumb asses are beer swilling, rifle toting Rednecks.

Just saying.

Needless to say, Captain Jack made his legendary ride and lived to tell the tale. He fought in the American Revolution from the beginning until the very bitter end.

Although, when the British finally made their way to the backwoods of North Carolina, they did take the time to burn Captain Jack's house to the ground.

BY FIRE AND BY SWORD!

The deeds of the Patriots in Mecklenburg County on May 20th, 1775 are remembered and emblazoned upon the flag of the Sovereign and Independent State of North Carolina!

Thus endeth the beer label lesson.

Truly a wonderful beer and worthy of a dumb ass Redneck, who you probably never heard of but for this post and a beer label, who helped change the World.
