The Official Beer of Appalachia State University

With the boom in Craft Brewing in North Carolina came the trend for every sports team and University to have their own personalized beer!

A few weeks ago, on #beersaturday I featured the beer brewed for Wake Forest University. which is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The mascot for Wake Forest University, founded by the Baptist Church, is the "Demon Deacon".

Tonight, I is a headed for them thar HILLS! The land where a man can be himself, and folk allow you to be yourself!

How is that for a mascot! A hillbilly, complete with a pipe and hat, by the name of YOSEF!

During football games after every score by the App State Mountaineers, Yosef fires a musket!

Have you ever noticed that certain folks do not mind being a stereotype, while others just fall out in a complete emotional meltdown?

Well, that is a great question. According to the folks at App State, it is a play on the local mountain dialect where the word "yourself" is pronounce YOSEF.

So the the true motto (not the official motto because that is some Latin nonsense) of App State University is simply "BE YOSEF".

BEER NAME: Mountain Brew
STYLE: Ale
ABV: 5.5%
BREWER: R&D Brewing, Raleigh North Carolina
APPERANCE: pale straw gold, pours with a rich head, clear
AROMA: malts with a hint of hops (citra?)
TASTE: clean, crisp with a hoppy finish
MOUTHFEEL: light body, carbonates well, with an excellent hop bitters at the finish

Reminds me of a Summer Ale, perfect for a football game or a cook out. The bitters at the end makes this a true winner that keeps the @handofzara a-grinning and a-feeling fine!

Dang I think I need to get me some more of this Mountain Brew!
