NOT ALL CUSTOMERS ARE RIGHT: TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS IN THE RIGHT MANNERS

I have been hearing this statement for a long time, I began to ponder my heart to come up with my own answer. To be sincere, not all customers are always right. But you don’t need to argue with your customer because you need him or her to buy your products.
This happened to me on several occasions when I was a sales boy. I have suffered humiliations from customers because they always think they are always right; they believe that sellers are the ones that need them most.

A man told me that he needs a cartoon of agrochemicals (herbicide). We were 2 in the shop but I was the only one in the shop that very day because my friend was sick: after the man paid me the money for the one carton (12X 1 liter). I brought the goods to where I was attending to him.
The customer asked me to bring the herbicide outside the shop: I cannot leave the shop unless my friend is in the shop. I told him, ‘Sir, I can't leave this shop now and I am attending to customers. If my friend is here, I will take the cartoon out by myself.

He said, “What kind of sales boy are you? It is your right to take this good out. I will call your boss and tell him that you are a bad sales boy, you expect me to take this product out by myself. You don’t even know how to treat your customers very well, that is the reason you will keep on losing customers”.
One of the customers said, “This boy is busy answering other customers, and you don’t expect him to leave the shop since it is only him here right now. Assuming you have a shop like this, and a man purchases goods: telling your sales boy to take goods out of the shop without anyone attending to other customers, what will be your response?
“It is not good for a seller to go out of his/her shop when there is no one that can assist. If this boy goes out now and someone steals something from this shop. This sales boy will be responsible because his boss will question him”.

As he was arguing with other customers, my boss came in; I took the cartoon of herbicide out of the shop without anyone telling me to do so. I was able to go out because my boss was also in the shop. One of the customers said, “You can now see that the boy is a good boy, it is because only him that is inside. You people should not put pressure on innocent people because you have problems from home or work, or somewhere.

My boss called the man and begged him that he should not be angry that the second person is not in the shop today. That is the reason he cannot leave the shop because I told them that if only one person is in the shop, he should not leave the shop for any reason. My sales boy approach may be wrong but i am very sorry.

When the man left, my boss said, “Chris, don’t mind him: some customers are like that, they are aggressive or may have problems. This may cause them to mount pressure on someone else. Remember, the customer is always right; this is because we need them to survive, and without them, our business will not grow. We need them to grow our business, that is the reason the customer is always right.

In my opinion and experience, not all customers are right but you need them for your business, that is the reason they are right. Treating your customers in good manners can bring more customers to you.
My boss was not only a dealer in agrochemicals in my environment; customers were referring customers to our outlet because we treated customers in good manners.
This was how my boss established two outlets far from his first outlet.
Therefore, one of the ways to be successful in business is to treat your business in a good manner.

I stand up for success, and success is not achieved by merely making mouth, No room for laziness, no room for idleness.

I don’t know why but things like this always seem to annoy me. The fact that you are annoyed at something does not give you the right to come and insult me or something. At the end of the day we all have problems we are dealing with but I seem to put it behind me and smile to customers right? So why can’t you do the same for the sales person.

It’s good you took the product out for him, I liked the way your boss reacted to the whole situation. He made sure to feed the man’s ego and also make you understand that you were right. Am sure if your boss had the chance he will tell the customer right to his face that he was wrong 😂 but as you said we always need them to come back.

One bad review from a Customer can spoil the good image your shop has.

When you treat customers right, they will refer you to other potential customers and therefore help your business grow. So we have to please them, but also not at the expense of our business as well.
