My Blitz Game with Comments
Greetings to all and happy Monday! The position above occurred in my blitz game in lichess.org. I was happy to find the move Rf6 ensuring a lasting king side attack and a winning position.
The game started with my usual opening { D00 Queen's Pawn Game: Accelerated London System } .
- d4 d5 2. Bf4 Nf6 3. e3 e6 4. Nf3 b6 5. c3 Bb7 6. Nbd2 Nbd7 7. Bd3 c5 8. Ne5 Be7 9. O-O O-O 10. h3 Nxe5 11. Bxe5 Nd7 12. Bg3 c4 13. Bc2 Nf6
An equal position so far but White has more space. My usual plan in this position is to push the e-pawn but has to be prepared by Qe2 and f3. The game continued 14. Qe2 Bd6 15. Bxd6 Qxd6 16. f4 a5
After exchanging the dark squared Bishop I pushed the f-pawn to the fourth rank to clamp on the e5 square. This helps lock out Black's pieces and maintain my space advantage. 17. a4 Bc6 18. Nf3 Nd7 19. Ne5 Nxe5
Exchanging on e5 gave me the advantage by opening the f-file for a king side attack. Meanwhile, Black's pieces are still passive and cannot defend or counterattack. 20. fxe5 Qe7 21. Qg4 b5 22. axb5 Bxb5
Black tried to open up the Queen side to counterattack but it's too slow. 23. Rf6 Kh8 avoids the pin on the g-file. Another variation is {23....g6 24. Rf1 Kg7 25. h4} with a lasting attack on the Black king. 24. Raf1 gxf6 25. exf6 Qd6 26. Qh5??? {I missed Qg7#} Rg8
I was already eyeing the mate on h7 and missed the mate on g7 but all roads lead to Rome 27. Qxh7# { White wins by checkmate. } 1-0
Good game. I think Bxh7 works too instead of the spectacular Rf6. I’m not sure but these position black is always going to be slow to regroup. Good execution btw.
My friend use to say. Why mate in one when you can mate in 5
Thank you!
The Greek gift sacrifice looks enticing but I didn't see it :)
LOL!
