Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Play the Campaign Mode for Fun and Profit!
Splinterlands is constantly coming up with innovations in order to help new players learn the basics of the game. In a recent update, a new tutorial was launched. It's a campaign mode whereby new players can learn the basic rules and how to play the game. As players complete the campaign mode, they are rewarded by starter cards that can be used in the game. Additionally, glint tokens are also given away. New players and veterans too can use this to buy chests from the rewards shop. This is the first campaign mode, Book 1 - Waur Mage Academy.
It consists of 11 missions where new players can learn from each mission some features of the game.
How to Access the Tutorial
The tutorial can be accessed by clicking the Play button and then Campaign. After that, players can access the Book 1 - Waur Mage Academy with Book 2 soon to come.
Missions
As I mentioned earlier, Book 1 has 11 missions, each teaching the new player about the game.
Mission 1 - An introduction to the game. Players will just read the text and nothing to do yet. This is where players will earn the first archon (Aurelia) and melee unit (Dread Tafarian). Both are from the green element so we will use them in the next mission.
Mission 2 - Mission 2 teaches about archons and units. Archons give buffs to units or debuffs to enemy units. It also teaches about how units are the ones used in battle. As a reward, another green element melee unit is given as a reward.
Mission 3 - Mission 3 teaches about how to use melee units. Generally melee units can be used in the first position unless they have skills that can make them attack from any position. It also teaches about the statistics like attack power and how health is decreased by attack. The reward for this mission is a green element ranged unit.
Mission 4 - Mission four is about ranged attacks. We can now use the ranged unit we earned in mission 3. Generally, ranged attackers cannot attack from the first position so they are placed in the back. The reward for this mission is an epic card.
Mission 5 - This mission is about armor. It teaches that melee and ranged will hit armor first before health. The mission rewards are four cards in the red element. An archon and three units which we will use in the next mission.
Mission 6 - Mission six teaches about the importance of speed and how it is used in the game to compute the possibility of dodging attacks. The red element archon gives a speed boost to units so we will use him in this mission. The reward is the blue element archon and some units that we will use in the next tutorial.
Mission 7 - Mission seven is about magic. In general, magic attacks cannot be dodged or blocked by armor. The blue element archon buffs units with +1 magic so we will use the blue team in this mission. The rewards are three units from the red team.
Mission 8 - Mission eight is about abilities. We received some units with abilities in the previous mission which we will use here. The reward for this mission are a team from the white element.
Mission 9 - Mission nine is important as it teaches about mana. Each game is assigned a mana cap so we will have to choose units that will not go over the mana. The reward for this mission is a team from the black element.
Mission 10 - Mission ten teaches us about the elements, formerly splinters. In general we can only use units with the same element as the archon.
Mission 11 - Mission eleven is about modifiers or rulesets. This can limit our cards, give abilities or debuffs depending on which modifier is available in the game. This ensures that Splinterlands games are unique.
After completing the missions, we can try to use the starter cards in actual games.
Starter Cards in Games
In this game I used mostly the starter cards while the enemy team used Conclave Arcana and Rebellion cards.
Round 1 - No units died but both our tanks are close to death.
Round 2 - My second unit died. It's now four units versus five with the advantage to the enemy.
Round 3 - My team killed an enemy unit levelling the game. It's now four vs four.
Round 4 - Each of us lost one unit. It's a very close fight with three units each at start of round 5.
Round 5 - We both lost another unit and it's two versus two going into the next round.
Round 6-9 We both have two units but mine has a magic and ranged attacker while the enemy two ranged attackers. This gave me the advantage since ranged units cannot attack from the first position. I won the game in round 9.
