Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - Winning With Magic

avatar

Greetings to all Splinterlands players! In this week's Social Media Challenge, I will show why magic (Water) is the easiest element to play. Magic attacks generally cannot be avoided and armor don't usually work against magic. This is why magic attacks are most useful in Splinterlands.

Battles with Magic Team

The typical team I use when I choose the Water element. It's composed of a tank, second tank, magic attackers and a ranged unit.

Port Guardian - The resident tank in the Water Splinter. Alternatively, we can use the neutral tank New Beluroc Aegis.

Vengeful Monk - This is an all around card that I use in all elements. Vengeful Monk has two melee attacks and can do it from any position.

Lunaki Howler - An epic neutral card. There are only a few magic cards in the Frontier set and this is one of the cards available for use in Water element.

Water Logged Wizard - One of the Water element magic users. It's also a regular member of the team when ever I use Water.

Saltwater Mage - Not everybody has this card. The Saltwater Mage is an epic Water card with two magic attacks. You cannot get this from the campaign mode. I got this card from the reward chests and has given me the advantage as you will see in my Water versus Water battles.

Frostguard Warrior - It's a ranged attacker and is a good unit in the Water team. It has two ranged attacks.

The enemy team is also Water but it has no Saltwater Mage in the team. Instead, he used two tanks which gave me the advantage having an extra magic attacker. The battle is over in three rounds.

Magic against Life Element

In the battle my opponent was a Life element. He must have chosen Life because of Explosive Weaponry ruleset. The Life summoner gives an armor to the team which is generally a good idea against Blast but I used a magic team and armor doesn't block magic attacks. In this game I included the Great Bear Druid in the team. I put him in second position to take the splash damage from Blast. Great Bear Druid is a legendary card with that can attack with melee and magic. He has a lot of health so I put him in second position to absorb the Blast.

The enemy team has a higher level summoner and some units are at level two and three. He also has a card that was not from the campaign mode. He has Lady Amara who is an epic magic card.

The battle was wild because the ruleset includes Aimless. Attacks land everywhere and coupled with Blast damage can be very harmful. My opponent's strategy of having the New Beluroc Aegis with Taunt to take some attacks did not work because Taunt doesn't work on Scattershot. My team was composed of magic attackers combining Scattershot with Blast is very devastating to the opponent.

Magic is ideal in Back to Basics ruleset

Magic attacks can hit from any position and ideal to use in Back to Basics ruleset. In the battle I guessed my enemy will also use magic so I used two tanks. I didn't use New Beluroc Aegis as second tank but chose the Spitting Camel instead. This is a tip for newbies. The Camel attacks with range so it will not be able to attack once the first tank dies but I chose him because he has more health than New Beluroc Aegis.

The New Beluroc Aegis also has three armor which normally makes him a better choice for a tank but armor does not block magic so health was my main consideration when choosing the Camel as a tank. In this magic against magic team, I also have my Saltwater Mage who gives me the advantage because she has two magic attacks. Another advantage I have is having more magic attackers (four) against my enemy's three.

The battle was close but it came down to us having one unit each. My opponent has ranged that cannot attack while I still have a magic unit.

Summary

Magic is very strong and sometimes can be unfairly stronger than other elements. That's why there are some abilities like Void and Void Armor as well as rulesets to weaken magic attacks. The Frontier Mode is in early stages and there are not much units yet to counter magic. Consider using it in your battles and you may rack up wins even against stronger opponents.
