The Dream to Walk Across India: My Unfinished Journey

Introduction: A Land Worth Exploring

I think most of you know that I live in India, and I've never gone outside India because there's so much to explore here in India. India is literally one country with hundreds of different languages, cultures, foods, cuisines, and customs.

The Beginning of My Journey

In 2021, I started travelling in my state, and I could only cover a few cities, and it was awesome travelling to different cities in a bus. Once I landed in a city, I would never use any kind of transport until I landed. It was an emergency, like once my feet were killing me because they were swollen and had some sort of infection from walking 35 kilometres in a day.

The Dream to Visit Every City in India

I never could complete the original idea of traveling in every city and every region in my country. But that stayed in my heart, and eventually someday I'm gonna do it. It's going to cost me a lot of money, a lot of time, a lot of energy and stuff like that if I ever manage to do it. But yeah, I still hope to do it one day.

AI and the Map of My Imagination

I keep thinking about it, and I just asked AI to chart me a map of all the cities, starting from Kanyakumari to the topmost state in India, that is Kashmir. And there are about 7,900 major towns or cities that I could cover, and according to the AI, it will take me at least 3 years to complete this journey.

A Realistic Challenge: Time, Money, and Dedication

I mean, if I am on a bike and only travelling, not sightseeing, but if I were to do it and visit every tourist destination, then obviously, it is going to take me at least 5 years. It's something that I can never do. It will take a lot of money, a lot of dedication. I can't leave my business. It has to be tended to.

How I Imagined the Journey

Well, that's my journey to visit every city in India. Every major tourist destination in India. A long continuous journey. Travelling to a city on a bus and then walking all the way into every tourist destination on foot. And then taking the bus and travelling to the next city. Using the minimum amount of money. Using every resource possible. Taking my laptop so that I can write about my experience. Taking hundreds and thousands of photographs and putting videos on YouTube. Writing here on Hive, Blurt, Streamit, or maybe other places as well.

What an amazing journey. If you could, if you had the money, if you had the courage to leave everything and go backpacking across India, would you be able to do that? It's not impossible, but it's very difficult.

My Backpacking Experience

Walking 35 Kilometers in a Day

A few years ago I started my backpacking journey, and I was able to visit a few cities and it was amazing. My personal best record of walking in a single city was about 35 km without using any form of transportation other than my feet. It was amazing, and I enjoyed it a lot.

The Pain and the Joy of the Road

The next day my legs were paining, they were swollen, and I needed to dunk my feet in hot water for half an hour and then took a nap for the rest of the day. That's how it went, but I enjoyed it. I loved the feeling of travelling and seeing all those amazing places, walking and walking, and panting.

The Loneliest 16 Kilometers

There was a journey where there was nothing for about 16 km: no houses, no farms, no water, no shops, nothing. And I walked and walked and walked. I was about to give up a hundred times, but a hundred times I picked up my phone, picked up my foot, and I put it down one foot after the other until I reached my destination. It took me hours to reach the destination. 16 km was easy, and 16 km going back was also not easy. It took me a whole day. 35 km was my test that day.

Would You Do It?

If you get such an opportunity, and if you had the money, the strength, and the health to attempt it, would you do it? Would you do it in India or some other country? Maybe, would you pick a smaller country like Holland or the Netherlands, or some other tiny country in Europe? India is one country, but it's huge.

If somebody is going to attempt it, then it is going to be at least 200,000 kilometers traveling across the length and breadth of the country. Well, that's my hope, that's my dream, that's my wish, and hopefully I'll be able to travel at least in my home state.
