Remember From Whence We Came! | MemeHive Contest - Batman Slapping Robin

HIVEMEME CHALLENGE#1.png

Hello everyone and welcome back. I have several offline projects this week. However, I just saw notice of the MEMEHive Contest that's expiring in a couple days. Loving Batman and Robin as I do, I decided to join in.

I've completed MEMEs in another community. However, this is my first time participating in the MEMEHive Community's contest by @memehive: MemeHive Contest: Meme Batman Slapping Robin (1st Prize 5 HIVE).

The Batman Slapping Robin MEME is a widely-circulated and popular parody. The idea was generated from the 1965 DC Comics episode. 1 I had no idea it had become a popular MEME. When I was young, I watched Batman and Robin's weekly serial on television and didn't miss an episode.

The substance of the television series that I loved was the fact that the two companions who fought crime together in Gotham City were true friends. They protected each other. They made sure that one one came between them. They "had each others' backs" no matter the circumstances. I also loved the cool outfits they wore.

I do remember Batman being upset with Robin about an issue. However, I can't remember the issue they encountered that would depict Batman slapping Robin. If anything, I would have guessed it was Batman attempting to rouse Robin out of a stupor that resulted from him being drugged by one of their arch enemies.

For the MEMEHive Contest, the contest owner provided the Meme image for participants' entries. The Meme template is based on DC Comics original art:

My older brother and I were avid fans of the Comics. He'd sometimes hide the books. When he was not at home, I'd read them. He was super possessive of his Comic books. He's now deceased. When I think of him, one of my fondest memories are our discussions about the latest episodes. He loved Batman. I loved Superman the best.

I just reviewed the site Know Your MEMES that the contest owner @memehive included in the contest post. Know Your MEMES advises that the backstory for the slap was that Robin questioned Batman about whether he would receive a Christmas gift from his parents. That's when Batman responded with a resounding slap and retort, "My parents are dead". I certainly don't remember this ever happening on the television series. 1

I wanted to spin the "SLAP" to something more Hive related. Here's my take on the popular scene:

I hope you like my version. If you'd like to join in, below are the rules. However, please consult the official contest post by @memehive:

EmbellishedLine759648Resized.png

Rules:

Per the contest owner @memehive in the contest post I linked to above, several rules must be adhered to when entering the contest:

  • No plagiarizing memes. If it is a meme you've already done before that is self-plagiarism. Keep it original.

  • Only one entry per user. No additional submissions from alternate accounts.

  • Users entering this contest must reply a link to their contest entry post to help ensure that @memehive is aware of their entry. Within 24 hours @memehive should be able to reply back to confirm that the entry has been seen and is entered into the contest.

  • User must include a link back to this post about the contest in their contest entry post.

  • User must use the tags #meme and #parody for their contest entry post. Even if your meme is meant as "satire" parody is allowed under the "fair use" doctrine so it's "parody" if anyone asks.

  • Contest starts when this contest announcement is posted and ends after the 7 day payout for this post occurs. Entries will be judged based on humor and presentation (how well the text is formatted to look like it came from an actual comic book). Bonus points for longer format post featuring the contest entry meme.

  • Optional but not required for contest:

Upvote and reblog this contest announcement post.

Woohoo ... I will remember this in any one-millionth of a second when I get frustrated with certain people, notice the higher price of certain coins, and need to remember: one always has to remember that while there are little irritations everywhere, one must ALWAYS remember where the Joker resides, as bright as a deadly desert SUN!

Hello. So glad you stopped by. I love the dynamic duo. Yes, every time something gets a bit rough, you have to think, "do I really want to experience that again!"

Life lesson.
Take care.

EXACTLY. As Sherlock Holmes would have asked in his 19th-century British idiom: "Is the game worth the candle?" Indubitably -- to stay with the idiom -- NO!

My mom is a big Batman fan too, so we grew up on reruns the original series ... it is hard to imagine Adam West's Batman slapping Robin. But if you consider the fates of foster children and orphans in the 1950s to now, especially if the people involved are rich enough to be pretty much beyond average consequences (i.e. Bruce Wayne), it becomes more likely that Dick Grayson, as Bruce Wayne's ward, might have had a much harder time than the television series suggests. Bruce Wayne went through extreme trauma if he lost his parents ... we assume, since Dick Grayson is his ward, that he also has. So, one can see Bruce Wayne reaching out to help someone in his position ... but we also know hurt people hurt people, and that power dynamic would be WAY OFF. That's not even to consider the history of the Greco-Roman world, in which a rich man -- hint, hint, the Greek word is "erastus" -- would take on a boy ward -- hint, hint, the Greek prefix for child is pedo -- and how much rich white men in the U.S. model not after Christian values, but Greco-Roman values in terms of the privileges they think they should have with those who have the "privilege" of sharing their lifestyle with them.

A lot of things on television in the 1950s and 1960s were highly sanitized ... Perry Mason is another example of being quite different in the books than on the screen. Raymond Burr was a soft touch as well for Mr. Mason!

I remember watching that Batman series too. I remember a movie with them that was out in the theaters. We went to see it with some friends we were visiting. I had no idea that is how that meme originated. They sure did have each other's backs.
