Some of My Bands Songs We'd Like To Film Videos For (Three Tune Tuesday)

avatar

Tuesday is here again, and with the turning of the week brings a chance to share a couple more songs for #TTT, one song has been in my mind the last little while, as we're thinking of doing some music videos for our band soon, which would be a great chance to put some new stuff out there, especially with the release of the second album; although, we don't want to neglect some of the older songs.

Dangerous Dave and the Side Effects - Well I never

Here's a song that I have always liked, but it never made it onto either of the albums and at that, it never had a video done for it - something I'm hoping to change over the next few weeks.

It has a real trad vibe, and I think the lyrics are fun with this one, it's a song - as stated at the start - about all the things the lead singer never did.

"All the things that people do, the list goes on forever. So I thought I'd share with you, the things that I have never!"

It's a good basis for a song, and I think the style we went with for it suits it. While it is different from the usual stuff we play, it's a lot of fun, and always great to experiment with different sounds.

Dangerous Dave and the Side Effects - Recreational Drug User

Here's another one that never had a video to go along with it, even though we do have an idea floating around for it.

So, it's told from the perspective of a girl who's a recreational drug user, but she's nothing like the vision of a drugged-up loser, as the lyrics state.

The idea for the video would be something of a performance piece. It would be me and the lads playing the song on stage, with some fast-paced camera work and some out-there lighting, as well as some fog for added effect.

The storyline of the video would be the girl at the venue going about her business, as the singer is in certain frames saying the lyrics. We would most likely only cut back to the band on stage for the choruses.

Dangerous Dave and the Side Effects - Parallel Universe

For this one, we were thinking of going all performance-piece and just having some experimental lighting, and colour grading to emphasise the idea of being in a parallel universe, and maybe we could even mess about with some greenscreen too, just for the fun of it.

This is an entertaining song, and while these are only demo recordings, I think the sound is fairly solid but, since going back to this album and re-recording the whole lot from scratch, we've actually gotten a much warmer sound from them, and some of the songs even changed, from the years of playing them and really honing some elements that we were only really experimenting with at the time of originally recording it.

When Album?
To be honest, I'm not sure, we have albums 1 and 2 completely recorded, and they're both mastered, but a friend of ours has a really great setup in his house and we're arranging with him to head out to his place to have a listen to sign off on it. We're hoping to be out there by next Sunday, and with that final word, we can do a little tweaking and just go for it and launch them.

We had an idea to do a double album launch party of some kind, but at this point, I think we all just want them up and out there, and move on to write some new tunes. As far as I'm concerned, these albums being held in limbo is doing nothing but stifling creativity, and almost putting a pause on moving on with new ideas.

Fingers crossed they are released within the next few weeks, another reason I'd like to get them done, dusted, and out there soon, is because the festival is only around the corner, 45ish days, it would be great to get a bit of hype going as we approach that date, coupled with some videos should do well for us, also, if we get them out prior to the festival, we may be able to sell some copies and have a nice amount of songs for anyone who comes across us at the gig itself.

Cool songs. I get an Ian Dury vibe from some of them, but that's not a bad thing. Coming up with fresh ideas for videos can't be easy and things could soon get expensive. I've not seen him lately, but @ashtv was doing some cool videos for bands.

I hope you can get the albums out soon. I know the music industry is changing, but people will still want them. Have you submitted any songs for the in-game radio on @risingstargame ? @jux would play them on his weekly show too.

Yeah he has a real Ian Dury way about him haha, we wanted to do a couple of covers of his, but the singer refused. Videos can be hard to really nail something down for, but in a lot of cases, we're able to get some good results for a relatively low cost. We tend to film them ourselves and I edit them since the guitarist records all the songs and stuff.

I haven't spoken to Ash in so long, we had some great chats about film production, music, and music videos, he's so sound. It would be nice to chat with him again when he's back from his break. I'm pretty sure he was one of the first people I spoke to when I first joined here and did my Introduction Post.

When I first saw that musicians could upload music to Rising Star I mentioned it to the lads, and they all agreed with me putting some of our stuff up there. I'm going to wait for the two albums to get released and then upload them to it, to see if a few of the songs get chosen.

I hope Ash comes back to Hive some time. I met him at least once.

I've not done much video editing, but it seems more complex than doing music. I'm impressed with what others do.

Video editing can be tough, but it is pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. I do find that it takes me about an hour of editing before I get into the rhythm of it, but once I do the following hours can go by much faster.

I don't do enough video to really get into it. Like anything you have to know the tools well.

don't understand the lyrics because I don't speak English but the music is very funny. A violin would suit him very well
