If my mother could dictate a single rule in the house, I am sure it would be "No electronics here," as it is something she never liked, and I believe she never will.

She refuses to even learn how to use WhatsApp, even though I tell her that this way she could reconnect with relatives and friends.

Not even the possibility of talking endlessly tempts her, and yet she loves to talk — and to her misfortune, she is the only one in the house who does.

After all, it is better not to even try to have a conversation, since the three of us who live in the house have completely opposite opinions and always end up arguing.

If there were a solar storm that damaged modern telecommunications, I am sure that would please my mother greatly, as it would fulfill her dream of having no electronic devices in the house and being able to return to face-to-face conversations.

According to my mother, smart devices make people dumb, and to a certain extent I grant her that point — but that is no justification for saying no to electronic devices.

Or is it?

Si mi madre pudiera dictar una sola regla en la casa, estoy segura que sería la de "Sin dispositivos electrónicos", ya que es algo que nunca le gustó, y creo que nunca le gustará.

Ella se resiste a tan siquiera aprender a utilizar la función de WhatsApp, aunque le diga que así podrá retomar contacto con parientes y amigos.

Ni siquiera la posibilidad de hablar ilimitadamente la seduce, y eso que ella ama hablar, y para su desgracia es la única en la casa.

Después de todo, es mejor no intentar conversar, ya que los tres habitantes de la casa tenemos opiniones conpletameopuestas, y terminamos siempre discutiendo.

Si hubiera una tormenta solar que dañara las telecomunicaciones modernas, estoy segura que eso complacería mucho a mi madre, ya que así se cumpliría su sueño de que no hayan dispositivos electrónicos en la casa, y poder nuevamente volver a las conversaciones cara a cara.

Según mi madre, los dispositivos inteligentes vuelven tontas a las personas, y hasta cierto punto le concedo razón, pero eso no es justificación para decirle no a los dispositivos electrónicos.
