The Luxury of Not Pretending
If we received a coin every time someone formed an opinion about us, we could probably swim in coins like Scrooge McDuck from the cartoons.
The reality is that the judgments we are exposed to without even knowing it come completely free of charge. Many times you don't even know the people who have opinions about you, yet there they are, with their views based on whatever comes out of their heads.
But unless we are a public figure who depends on public opinion, what people say about us should not keep us up at night.
After all, it is impossible to be liked by everyone, just as it is impossible to expect objectivity from human beings.
In my case, I am quite sure that the opinions others have of me will largely coincide with my own. Because the truth is that I am a terrible person.
And when I say terrible, I don't mean evil or cruel. I mean that I am incapable of saying what I don't think, of smiling when I don't feel like it, of applauding what doesn't deserve applause. That, in a world that rewards appearances, can seem quite terrible to some people.
That is the truth. I cannot use the social filter that makes us do or say things we don't actually believe. And that is not a justification — it is simply an opinion I have of myself.
I know far too many people who will never say anything to your face, but the moment they get together with others, they will talk about you — and even about things you never did or said.
I have many and varied flaws, but at least I don't pretend to be something I'm not. What you see is what you get. And at least nobody is ever surprised, since I act according to what I think.
So the opinion others have of me should fall along the same lines as my own opinion of myself — or perhaps even a little worse.
Why fall into the game of appearances when human nature always comes to the surface, sooner or later?
It is impossible to pretend all the time with everyone, unless we are psychopaths — and that is not a good thing for anyone.
And since I mentioned psychopaths, they are a special case because they simply do not feel what others feel. The rest of us, sooner or later, grow tired of pretending. That is why authenticity is not just something noble — it is also the only thing we can sustain over time without losing our minds.
As for whether I care about the opinion others have of me, I will tell you that I care very little. I have never lived off opinions — what I am is what has brought me to where I am.
And since we are on the subject, I believe the world would be an infinitely better place if people did not worry so much about what others think.
After all, others do not have the full picture, and they can never truly know the situations others are going through — which means any opinion they form will be biased.
And within those biases that we all have, whether we like it or not, lies the origin of all the errors of judgment we tend to make with total carelessness and without thinking about the repercussions they could have.
So it would be far better to focus on being the person we want to be, rather than appearing to be the person we want others to think we are.
Acting is only useful if you are on a stage or a film set — so being authentic and free is the one thing we will never regret, even if it gives others reason to think poorly of us.

STOPAuthentic people are a "dying species"... It's enough to look at traditional social media, and you can see that 99% of people are fake, sharing fake values, influencing people to be what they aren't... The worst thing is that among that forest of fakeness, it's hard to find authentic people... Also, those "pretenders" are in most cases so outside their reality that all society is moving off the rails... Day by day, it looks like we are falling deeper in the Matrix...

I agree, I live in a country whose motto is God, Fatherland, Family, but yet we have the highest rates of single mothers, femicides, and teenage pregnancies resulting from sexual abuse, where the perpetrator is almost always a family member. And to make matters worse, now on a diplomatic level, Paraguay is supporting the genocide in Gaza and the war in Iran with its shameful votes at the UN, even intervening in the lawsuit at the International Criminal Court in favor of Israel, claiming that the UN definition of genocide doesn't apply to what Israel is doing. And yeah, we live in a world where appearances are what matter, and behind closed doors, everyone drops their masks 😔.
Thanks a lot for your support 🙏😊
That's the biggest reason why we should be persistent in pursuing the Web3 idea, the HIVE value is in "keeping the truth" on the chain! That bad people can't hide behind their masks, where truth will hunt them down!
