JD.ID will close in Indonesia starting March 2023
JD.ID is a giant ecommerce in Indonesia. After 8 years of operation, finally JD.ID will stop its operations starting in March 2023.
JD.ID first started operating in Indonesia in November 2015. JD.ID was born from a partnership between Jingdong (JD.com) and an equity firm from Singapore, Provident Capital.
After a series of layoffs and closing logistics services, JD.ID officially closed its services entering its eighth year of operation in Indonesia. In its announcement, the service will close on March 31, 2023.
JD.com announced the closure on its official website. The company also stated that it would no longer be accepting orders as of February 15, 2023.
This is bad news because it will create new unemployment. There are several large e-commerce companies that have gone bankrupt in the previous year, such as Elevania, Mataharimall. tokobagus.com and others.
Currently, there is a tendency for Indonesians to start shopping offline again. They prefer to go to malls and shops. Indonesian people are people who like to mingle and don't like to spend time in the house. Maybe this is one of the reasons for the rise of online stores going bankrupt. Malls are busy again, cinemas are starting to open and music concerts have started.
The biggest music concert after plandemic was the Dewa-19 concert at JIS (Jakarta International Stadium). The concert was attended by more than 65,000 live audiences.
There is also a tendency for traders to start selling their goods through social media networks and not through marketplaces. They directly relate to consumers through private messages. Payments are also made directly to the bank account.
How is the condition of e-commerce after the pandemic? Has the bankruptcy of the e-commerce giant in Indonesia also happened in your country?
