Aranduriel and Songale: Dragon's Dynamic Backline Combo

Hello Splinterlands Summoners! I have been trying team combinations in Conclave Arcana. One of the synergies I found effective was the Reckless and Painforge abilities. In the Fire splinter, the Cavewise Wayfinder and Vicious Giraffe in the first and second positions prove to be an effective and fun combo especially in low mana battles. In the Dragon Splinter, there is a similar combo in the backline but this is even better.

Aranduriel and Songale - Dragon's Backline Combo

To better appreciate this combo, let's see the individual cards stats and abilites.

Aranduriel (Painforge)Songale (Reckless)

Aranduriel deals four ranged damage and aside from Painforge, she has the Sneak, Lifeleech and Immunity abilities. Lifeleech is especially useful since it adds to her health everytime she does damage to the enemy. Songale deals three magic damage and has good defense. In addition, he has abilities that complement each other. Taunt draws attacks to him which is one of my key strategies. That's why I said that this combo is better than Wayfinder and Giraffe. In addition, Songale has Enrage which increases his speed when attacked. He also has Bloodline Tribute and Redemption which is useful when he gets defeated. These synergy of abilities makes this combo very effective especially at maxed levels.

For Silver level players, even a level two Aranduriel with Painforge and level one Songale will do. I'm using the cards at those levels and while they are not as effective, the combo can shine especially with Songale's additional role as a Taunt unit, drawing attacks from the enemy and leaving my other units to survive for a couple of rounds.

Featured Battles

Here are a couple of battles where I used the combo. Aranduriel has a disadvantage of her two speed in that her attacks are dodged by faster units so this combo will be more effective at higher levels or at Reverse Speed ruleset.

Battle Against Kaylia and Elves

The ruleset in this battle were Armored Up and Arcane Dampening. This is somewhat contrasting since Armored Up encourages the use of magic attackers but Arcane Dampening decreases magic attacks.

Since magic attacks are weakened, I used Commander Slade as my tank followed by a one mana filler unit. The rest of my units are dragon splinters including Aranduriel and Songale in the rear.

My opponent went with a combo I also like and play a lot: Kaylia archon and elves. Kaylia grants elves the Execute ability which can make them attack twice in a round. They are anchored by a tank with high defense.

The elves showed their strength in the early rounds and defeated Songale quickly. He was only able to buff Aranduriel once. Thankfully, the ruleset included Arcane Dampening, allowing Commander Slade to resist some of the magic attacks. Also, my units were targetting the enemy backline with their Sneak and Opportunity abilities. This allowed my team to reduce the damage dealers and win the battle.

Bloodmoon Ruleset

I get to have fun with the new Bloodmoon ruleset in this battle. The strategy is to hit hard and fast to take advantage of the Bloodlust ability for each enemy defeated.

I picked the Fire splinter this time to team up with Dragon with Drybone Megalodon and Molten Elemental combo in the front. In the back I again have Aranduriel and Songale.

The enemy team is strong but his positioning is a mistake. He put Commander Slade in last position when it should have been in second where it can attack. On the other hand, it defended well against Aranduriel's sneak attacks but as a result of the enemy positioning, he had two units who were not attacking while all my units were doing damage. In a ruleset like Bloodmoon, it's crucial to defeat enemy units first to get the Bloodlust ability. Second mistake was he positioned his Red Wyrm in fourth when it could be better in third. As a result, his Night Reaper was targeted first by mine's Wingbreak ability.

My team eliminated the enemy tanks first including his Night Reaper. Meanwhile, Songale survive long enough for Aranduriel's attack to be raised to seven while her health was decreased to one. She wasn't able to take advantage of her high attack though as Commander Slade kept dodging her but eventually, the enemy frontline was decimated and only Commander Slade was left against four units.

Final Thoughts

Aranduriel - Songale combo shows potential in Silver level and will be highly effective in higher levels when Songale has his Bloodline Tribute and Redemption abilities. There are more combos out there waiting to be discovered especially with the coming of the new reward cards. I have seen some of them and I'm already thinking which cards they can synergize with. This is what makes Splinterlands a fun game where each card can team up with others to make them more effective in battles.
