Avatars and Exemplars: Splinterlands Drops Biggest Update!

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome to my blog! Splinterlands has been churning out exciting updates this year. It started with the Conclave Arcana set then the free to play Frontier mode, powerful cards, lands and more. Before the year closes, Splinterlands rolled out another revolutionary update, one not seen in other trading card games: Avatars and Exemplars.

Avatars and Exemplars

Avatars allow us to customize our own representation in the game based on Splinterlands lore. We can choose our bloodline, design the looks, background and borders among others.

Exemplars is the feature that I find exciting. Our avatars can become cards that we can put stats and abilities similar to Splinterlands cards. We can level up the cards by paying with Glints to make them stronger. We can also edit our cards by using in game items that were crafted and serve as DEC sink. The most exciting part is Exemplars have in game utility. They are not merely cosmetics, they are real cards designed and customized by us from it's looks to stats and abilities. They have in game utility that can be used in some tournaments and upcoming updated Guild Brawls! If you're not farming Glints yet, upgrading Exemplars should motivate you to do so.

Customizing My Own Avatar and Exemplar

Here's a step by step method on how to customize your own Avatar and Exemplar. It's very easy and intuitive but it could take time if you really want to make your avatar unique.

This is the starting avatar I had. I started by editing the avatar and then the exemplar.

The are a lot of customizations that you can choose from. The appearance includes the bloodline. In my case, I like elves so I chose this look. I had in mind an Earth splinter, magic wielding elf. You can choose the face, hairstyle, brows, eyes, nose and mouth. Each avatar can be different with all these customizations.

In the extras we can change how the ear looks like, if you want scars and their design. There are also tattoos, earrings and accessories.

Next, I changed the color of my avatar's clothes. I'm already happy with the design, I just changed it to make it look like an Earth splinter.

Finally, I changed the background and borders to give it a look of a legendary Earth splinter card.

I prefer these background and border but these are locked at the moment.

After the avatar, it's time to create my Exemplar. The Exemplar takes the avatar design. It's stats, abilities and mana are basic. We have twenty points available at level one. We can allocate it to various stats, abilities and mana.

First I changed element to Earth. Note that when the free changes are exhausted, you will have to use a Capacity Flux that can be bought in the shop or non card market. A capacity flux cost around $1.40 so be sure on your choices.

Initially, I wanted a mage but it costs a lot of skill points to upgrade magic damage so I chose melee instead. Here is my final Exemplar at level one after using twenty skill points. Note that as you upgrade stats and abilities, mana increases as well. After using twenty skill points, my card's mana increased to nine. I didn't put any abilities yet. I'll add those once I level up the card.

Levelling up costs Glint. It costs one thousand Glints to level up to two then the cost goes up the more you level up the card.

This is the panel to unlock abilities. It costs skill points and therefore Glints to unlock slots and add abilities to your card.

This is where we can decrease the mana. It also costs skill points to decrease it. It can get costly in terms of Glints since each level up only adds one skill point and we need a lot to create a powerful card.

For me, the utility of Exemplars is on the updated Guild Brawls where it can be used like Gladiator cards. Anyway, these are the initial stats of my Exemplar for now.

Final Thoughts

The Avatars and Exemplars is another exciting update and brings a new element to our game. This is like an RPG where we level up our characters and customize them the way we like similar to games like Skyrim. I'm hyped and can't wait to use my Exemplar in brawls. It will take time but I will level up and strengthen my very own card.

Hi.

What a great update! I like elves too; it'll be so much fun improving our avatars' stats.

Nice post, my friend. 😀
