Gorgug the Endless is one the under rated archons in Splinterlands. He reminds me of Chaos Legion archon General Sloan who nobody used much in the lower levels because of his less than stellar abilities compared to other archons. On the other hand, he is cheap in the market and thus cost effective to level up and max out. High level summoners gives a definite advantage. Forget about the archon abilities, they give you access to higher level units and thus enjoy additional stats and more powerful unit abilities.

Lore

From the Splinterlands lore:

To the Grimward of Grazg Batul, there are two kinds of warriors: those who fight until they fall and those who fight forever. Gorgug the Endless is the latter.

A shaman and a warrior, he channels the spirits of Duratuk's ancestors, calling on their strength in battle. The Grimward are outnumbered, a handful against a small army. The storms rage, the tides rise, but Gorgug does not falter. He has stood through worse. He will stand through this.

Stats and Abilities

Gorgug decreases enemy range attacks by one and grant the Enrage ability to all Orcs. The abilities look undesirable compared to others like Fithe Bladestone who grants two armor stats or Razi Clanktrap who grants the Close Range ability. This made Gorgug cheaper than other archons and can be upgraded for less cost. A max level gold foil can be bought for only $77, the cheapest there is in the market.

Featured Battle

Having a max level card gives you access to higher unit abilities so you must combo it with max level units too. Another advantage of having high level units is being able to compete in higher leagues and thus access to higher rewards.

This battle was played in the Gold League with player beccacapital having a Black Foil Gorgug the Endless. The rest of his team was composed of the following maxed or close to maxed units.

Commander Slade

Commander Slade is one of the best tanks that combines offense and defense. He deals five melee damage and is fast with six speed. He's got excellent defense with seven armor and ten health. His abilities are also great. Enfeeble decreases his target's melee damage while Dodge gives him a high chance to evade enemy physical attacks. He has Deflect that makes him immune to Thorns and Backfire that punishes an enemy when it misses, a perfect combo to the Dodge ability.

Warwall Juggernaut

Warwall Juggernaut is a great unit in second position. He deals three melee damage, has five armor, eleven health and three speed. His Reach ability enables him to attack with melee from second position. He has Armored Strike that utilizes his armor as an offensive weapeon.

Abyssal Elemental

Abyssal Elemental is a magic unit that deals three damage. It has Blast ability that does splash damage. It also has Resurgence ability that enables it to resurrect with full health.

Steppe Stalker

Steppe Stalker is an range damage dealer and debuffer. He deals three range damage while decreasing the enemy's speed by one.

Mar Torren Trader

Mar Torren Trader is a low mana unit that deals two range damage. She can self heal while also decreasing the enemy's range attack with her Headwinds ability.

Stampeding Calf

The last unit is the Stampeding Calf who deals three melee damage from afar with its Charge ability. It can also decrease the enemy's health by one with its Weaken ability.

His enemy is no push over with a maxed out legendary Eternal Tofu archon. His team is composed of dual tank combo Folen Flameye and Warborn Chieftain followed by damage dealers in the rear. It's a team that can win against any other opposition but beccacapital's team had the better synergy with a mix of offense, defense and debuffs.
