Magnificent Mollusk: A Powerful Range Attacker!

avatar

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog! My post today is about another Escalation set card that brings huge damage from the backline: the Magnificent Mollusk. We'll do a deep dive and check out the card's lore, stats & abilities as well as its role in battles and possible combos.

Lore

Lady Tentavia the Magnificent is a powerful and dramatic sea sorceress aboard the Saltwraith. She is known for loudly announcing her superiority while obliterating enemies with powerful magic. Despite her immense talent, she ended up joining Captain Frankie’s crew after they found her guarding a worthless coral “artifact” and simply offered her pay. Now, she serves as a strong but overly theatrical mage. She tries to maintain her pride in the rather unglamorous life of a pirate crew.

Stats and Abilities

At low levels, the Magnificent Mollust boasts of huge range damage of six. She doesn't have much abilities but her damage potential makes up for what she's lacking especially in the lower levels. She just gains one more attack as she gains higher levels and will have the Demoralize and Apex Strike abilities.

My Magnificent Mollusk is at level three and has six range damage. I plan to raise her to level five to get the Demoralize ability. She cost only below $0.03 per copy but it takes a lot to get her to level five.

Role in Battles, Combos and Rulesets

The Magnificent Mollusk is a backline damage dealer. Her huge six range damage gives the team a dependable dps from the rear. She has sufficient defense to guard against Sneak attackers but she cannot attack from the front so it would be great to have a beefy tank in the frontline to keep her attacking from the rear position. Since she's a Death splinter, it would be great to use her with Razi Clanktrap archon who will grant her the Close Range ability and thus enable her to attack from the front position.

Featured Battle

The battle had the Going the Distance ruleset and allowed only range units. In this ruleset, the choices are Water where Gorgug the Endless archon decreases enemy range attack by one or Death splinter since Razi Clanktrap grants the Close Range ability to all units. In this battle, I chose the latter. My team was composed of the following units.

Steelhead Arbalest

A new card from the Escalation set. The Steelhead Arbalest has decent defensive stats to play tank in this battle.

Thraghun

Thraghun is one of my key cards in Going the Distance ruleset. He deals dual damage of melee and range and he has the Reach ability making him perfect in second position. He also has the Return Fire ability that returns damage to range attackers.

Chaos Battlemage

The Chaos Battlemage is a legendary reward card from the Rebellion set. She deals three range damage and has Rebirth ability.

Meriput Slinger

Meriput Slinger deals four range damage while slowing down its target with Impede ability.

Deep Delver

The Deep Delver deals three range damage and debuffs the enemy team with its Rust ability. It's a crucial ability in this battle since it decreases the enemy team's defense against physical attacks.

Magnificent Mollusk

Lastly, the highest damage dealer in the team. She boasts of six range damage and can defeat enemies in one strike per round.

The enemy team also chose the Death splinter with a different line up. Although his archon is higher level than mine, his units were not as good. He used mostly Frontier units which have inferior stats and abilities compared to Conclave Arcana units. Without their armor due to Deep Delver's Rust ability, the Magnificent Mollusk's six attack easily went through and decimated the enemy team.
