Splinterlands: Predicting the Enemy's Cards

avatar

Hello Splinterlands warriors and welcome back to my blog!

Predicting your enemy's cards is an important strategy in Splinterlands because battles are won long before the monsters actually enter the battlefield. Since both players choose their teams simultaneously and cannot react after the match begins, accurately anticipating your opponent's lineup allows you to build effective counters and gain a major advantage. Some ways to predict your enemy cards are:

Using Battle History

Splinterlands allows players to review previous matches. By examining an opponent's favorite splinters, summoners and strategies, you can identify patterns and make educated guesses about what they will play.

Countering Common Strategies

Experienced players tend to favor certain combinations, summoners or splinters. If you expect an opponent to field a magic heavy team, you can bring units with Void or other abilities that counter magic.

Adapting to Rulesets

Different rulesets encourage specific team compositions. In an "Anemic" battle, players are less likely to rely on monsters that gain power from status effects, while "Going the Distance" often leads to ranged focused lineups. Studying the rules lets you narrow down your opponent's options.

Featured Battle

In this battle, I saw that the enemy used Water magic teams so I formed a team aiming to counter it. On the other hand, he must have seen that I've also used Water magic teams in my recent battles and formed a Death team with anti magic abilities to counter it.

I used Earth because the archon debuffs magic attacks. My tank had Void that further decreases magic attacks received. I used units with Opportunity and Sneak abilities to target the enemy's rear positions because magic units tend to have low health. Then I had a support unit, Silverleaf Warlock, that increased my team's speed and another unit, Sorrow Harvester that decreased the enemy's health. My team was composed of a strong tank, damage dealers, support and debuff. It had a good synergy against magic teams.

The enemy also formed a team against magic units. His tank and second position unit both had Magic Reflect ability while his third position unit had Silence ability that decreased magic damage. He also had support units with healing and Swiftness ability. Unfortunately for him, his damage dealers in the rear were magic which were debuffed by my archon and tank. The decrease of the enemy attack and my Sneak attacker, Bren Palesworn as well as Thanalorian Blade gave me the advantages to win the battle. My tank withstood attacks while my own damage dealers demolished the enemy's rear.
