Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - Farewell to Chaos Legion Set

Hello Splinterlands Summoners! In less than a week we'll be saying farewell to our favorite Chaos Legion set. I have been playing with this set for most of my time in Splinterlands and I'm so used to Chaos Legion that choosing teams in battles is easy and natural. But, as in life, the old must give way to the new and Conclave Arcana marks a new era for Splinterlands. The pre-sale is a smashing success with over a billion DEC and CREDITS spent or over a million dollars in sales. That's how enthusiastic the community is for Conclave Arcana.

Farewell to Chaos Legion

It may be a bit sentimental and Chaos Legion is not exactly gone but I won't be playing with it anymore after it moves to Wild League. My post today is about my favorite battles and teams in the Chaos Legion. I already have certain teams in my playbook per ruleset that choosing units in battles comes automatically.

Water Splinter

Ever since the Chaos Legion set came out, the Water splinter has been my favorite. Kelya is arguably the best rare summoner in set, providing armor and speed to the already fast Water team. The Water team also has the likes of Djinn Oceanus and Venari Wavesmith who are popular for fans of magic dealing units.

In this battle, I used the typical Water team that I use nowadays. In synergy with Kelya, this team is built for speed, high damage and defense.

Commander Slade (tank)

Commander Slade took over the tank position from Diemonshark who was my usual tank before the new reward cards came out. Commander Slade uses two more mana but his abilities are great for a tank. His damage potential and speed are great too. His only weakness is lack of defense against magic but my strategy is to hit the magic team with my speed before they can do much damage to my tank.

Kulu Mastermind (second position)

The second position was usually occupied by a level six Flying Squid but this time I picked Kulu Mastermind to coordinate attacks with Deep Lurker who also has the Opportunity ability.

Deep Lurker (third position)

The Deep Lurker is an assassin who will hunt the enemy's lowest health unit. Coupled with its Poison ability, this unit is one of the best common cards in the whole set if not in Splinterlands.

Gargoya Devil

The Gargoya Devil is a flying ranged unit with Closed Range ability. It finds a place in my teams because it's versatile that can be used in most rulesets and deals good damage.

Uraeus

Uraeus is another favorite card that I will miss. At only three mana it deals decent damage, has the Sneak and Poison abilities to wreck the enemy's back line units.

Swamp Spitter

One of my favorite support cards. It deals great damage and has good speed. But its best utility is its ability to Repair my tank's armor whether it's Diemonshark or Commander Slade. I usually use this card in combination with Merdaali Guardian, another great support unit.

Opponent Team

My opponent also used the Water splinter and has a team that I previously used. Baakjira is one of the best no attack tank in the game providing buffs to its team while slowing down the enemy team. It has Void to defend against magic attack and Heal to sustain itself. With Kulu Mastermind and its Weapons Training ability, Baakjira suddenly gained an attack making it more useful. My opponent also has Wavebrood with its Taunt ability and supported by Angelic Mandarin with its Triage ability. I use a similar strategy in the Light and Earth splinters.

The Battle

The battle was a close fight with the first casualty only in round two when my team eliminated the opponent's Wavebrood. The fight was competitive but I had an advantage in that his Baakjira was in third position and was not doing any damage. Meanwhile each of my units were doing damage eliminating his units faster than they can eliminate mine.

Light Splinter

If the Water splinter is for speed, the Light splinter is for sustainability. Light splinter units have great defense coupled with abilities like healing, flying and immunity against poison. I have a high win-rate with my usual set up composed of four core units that synergizes well with each other.

I could use a Light or Dragon summoner in this set-up and add some support or damage dealing units but the most important are the four core members.

Uriel the Purifier (tank)

Uriel is a beefy tank with his armor and health coupled with his flying and healing abilities. He also does a great deal of damage and can one shot his target. He's a great tank but further strengthened with the right team.

Djinn Renova (second position)

Djinn Renova does three magic damage and grants one health to the team. She also has a Triage ability that heals Iziar which is a core ability in my strategy.

Adelaide Brightwing

Adelaide Brightwing is great unit to combo with Uriel. She is also a flying unit and can do magic damage. She repairs Uriel armor making him last longer in battle. Adelaide is also great in several rulesets like Earthquake and Noxious Fumes because of her Flying and Immunity abilities.

Iziar

Iziar is another important unit in this strategy. He can deal two magic damage from the rear and draw enemy attacks with his Taunt ability. He has enough health to absorb several attacks but he is further sustained by Djinn Renova with Triage.

My strategy is to divide enemy attacks on Uriel and Iziar while both are sustained by healing and repair. Meanwhile, my team will continue to do damage to the enemy team. I often end the battle with my team intact in this set-up.

Link to Battle

I have other strategies per ruleset. In low mana battles, I usually choose the Earth splinter which has low mana magic damage dealers or the Death splinter anchored on the Cursed Windeku who can be used for only six mana but has great damage and sustainability.

Final Thoughts

The new set, Conclave Arcana brings me mixed feelings. On one hand, I'm excited for a fresh, new start in Splinterlands. On the other, I will miss the familiarity I have with the Chaos Legion set as well as the fun in seeing my proven strategies work against several oppositions.
