Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Our Latest Guild Brawl and Gladius Case Purchases
Hello Splinterlands Summoners and welcome to another edition of Social Media Challenge! Our guild just finished another brawl and I bought some Gladius cases to upgrade my Gladiator deck. Today, I'll be posting about our performance and the new cards I got.
Brawl Performance
Our guild finished at the middle of the pack, scoring 219 points from 73 wins and 39 losses. While this is not bad, our performance could still be improved. I'm hoping we could consistently rank in the top three.
I'm satisfied with my own contributions in this brawl. I won seven battles and lost one. Each of us earned 3,800 merits and 71 SPS. SPS earnings from Guild Brawls are a big chunk of my weekly SPS earnings.
Gladius Case Purchases and Card Upgrades
I accumulated over eight thousand Merits which I used to buy four Gladius cases. Each case contain five cards with one card rare or higher. This means I'll add another twenty cards in my collection including at least four rares.
This batch of cards yielded seven rares, one epic and one gold foil. There are no legendary cards but I can upgrade some cards from this set.
There are some common cards that I was able to upgrade to higher levels.
Krash Wanderford
Krash Wanderford was upgraded to level five where he gained another speed stat. He's a decent tank owing to his speed and Thorns ability. If he can be paired with a unit with Weapons Training ability then his utility in battle increases.
Alva the Crusher
Alva the Crusher levelled up to six. She just gained another health stat. She's a good low mana tank with Shield and Retaliate abilities. Her stats are also decent with three melee attack, three speed, three armor and seven health.
Hugo Strongsword
Hugo Strongsword is another good low mana tank. He's got Shield and Heal abilities making him stay in battle longer. His damage is not as high as others but he has enough defensive abilities and staying power to be a decent tank at only five mana.
Featured Battles
Battle 1
The main ruleset of this battle is Keep Your Distance. We cannot use melee units in this battle, only magic and ranged units. I used the Dragon archon Kavor Skarn because I have a lot of good Dragon non-melee units. Consequently, I didn't use any units from the available splinters to mix with the Dragon units except for one Neutral card, Arcane Skinwalker. I chose the Queen of the Dragons, Larissa Kerato, for my Gladiator card together with two strong Rebellion Reward cards, Night Reaper and Syrenth. In the backline, I had the combo of Aranduriel and Songale. This is a Reckless/Painforge ability combo that I use similar to the Wayfinder and Vicious Giraffe in the Fire Splinter.
My opponent chose the White splinter with mostly magic units. His archon is a unit with tactics that either grant speed buff or healing. He has the reliable Captain Katie as a Gladiator card.
At the start of the battle, my opponent chose to grant speed to two units. If I were on his shoes, I would have picked healing and gave it to the tank and let the damage dealers do their job while the tank holds position for as long as he can.
My opponent drew first blood, eliminating Syrenth who has Taunt ability but I retaliated by destroying his tank. Next, Songale who also has Taunt was eliminated but not before he granted +2 ranged attack to Aranduriel. The battle was close but my remaining damage dealers are stronger and decimated the opponent one after the other.
Battle 2
This battle severely limited my choices. It has Briar Patch and Rise of the Commons ruleset. I wanted to avoid using melee units but I don't have a decent tank to use. I picked Cavewise Wayfinder since he has a high attack, armor and health that would compensate for the Thorns damage. This is also a variation of Reckless and Painforge combo since my archon, Razi Clanktrap grants Painforge ability to gnomes. In second position a put a gnome unit to take advantage of Wayfinder's Reckless ability. Two more magic units were added to my team and for my Gladiator card, I had a four ranged attack Liza Fox.
My opponent had a magic unit in tank position and Chimney Wallstop in second. If it were me, I would have placed Wallstop in first position even though he has Reach ability. His stats are good enough as a main tank plus his Helheim Demon would draw attacks with its Taunt ability. That strategy would have divided my attack between his tank and Taunt unit.
The battle is five units against four. I was able to field more units because mine have lower mana than the opponent's. On abilities, my units were not lacking either. I had higher damage potential and health. This advantage proved crucial and I won this battle rather easily.
