Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: My Battles this Season

(Edited)

Hello Splinterlands Summoners and welcome to another edition of Social Media Challenge! We are a few days of a new season and as usual I'm battling in the Frontier. In today's post, I'll show some of my battles and my thoughts when choosing my team and units for the particular battles. When choosing units, I consider the available Splinters, the ruleset and the recent teams used by my opponent. Let's get into it!

Battle 1 - All Magic

The first battle had Armored Up in the ruleset. In this case it's wise to use magic units. They deal a lot of damage while generally ignoring armor and they don't miss. My team was composed of mostly magic units with one ranged because the mana cap only allowed thirty three. My tank was the legendary Great Bear Druid who has dual attack of magic and melee. He also has ample health for tank duties. My other magic units were the Water Logged Wizard and an epic card that I pulled from rewards, the Saltwater Mage. She gives me an advantage because she deals three magic damage compared to the opponent's Lunaki Howler who only deals two. Finally in last position I had a four mana archer that will help deal damage to the enemy team.

The enemy team was also composed of magic attackers. In the tank position he had the Colossus Raider while the Great Bear Druid took second position. I think it would have been better if they switched places since his tank only has one health and will be quickly eliminated. We almost had similar magic units but I got the advantage with the Saltwater Mage.

My team quickly took out his tank while my Saltwater Mage attacked the rear units. It was still a close fight though and could have gone either way if not for my key card.

Battle 2 - Counterspell and Equalizer Rulesets

In the next battle, the rulesets were Counterspell and Equalizer. I avoided using magic units and aimed to use as many units as possible to take advantage of the Equalizer ruleset. I chose the Earth Splinter because of its strong range damage dealers. In the tank position I used a no attack unit Spellmonger. Although it has no attack, it's quite deadly against melee units because of his Thorns ability. Also, his one health will increase because of Equalizer making him last longer in battle. In second position is the Vengeful Monk, a powerful melee unit with Opportunity ability. My next units were composed of ranged damage dealers as I aimed to avoid magic units. Particularly Wilhelmdale Deputy and Kicking Roc who deal two and three ranged damage respectively. They are the reason why I chose the Earth Splinter in this battle.

The opponent also chose Earth but used the Dread Tafarian as his tank. As a result, he only had four units against my five giving me the advantage.

My team eliminated the enemy melee units by round three. Once they were gone, the enemy was left with ranged units who cannot attack from first position. I won the battle rather easily.

Battle 3 - Silenced Archons

The next battle had Silenced Archons as a ruleset. In this case, we would rely mainly on the strength of units and their abilities. Normally I would choose the Death Splinter since they are packed with great units but it's not available in this battle so I chose Earth instead. At tank position is the Dread Tafarian who has the Heal ability making him a great tank. In second position I placed the Spellmonger who is a great unit to counter the Vengeful Monk. In third I had the Vengeful Monk, a common unit with two melee damage and Opportunity ability. In fourth, I had Glimmermancer, an epic unit that deals two magic damage and the next units were ranged units Wilhemdale Deputy and Kicking Roc.

My opponent also chose the Earth Splinter but he didn't choose the Spellmonger and he didn't have the Glimmermancer.

The battle was close. My opponent had two units with Opportunity so my Spellmonger didn't eliminate them although their health was decreased. The battle was decided when my Glimmermancer survived leaving my opponent with ranged units. If my Glimmermancer was eliminated I would have been in the unfortunate situation with two ranged units left.

Conclusion

In a couple of battles, I won because I had cards the opponent didn't have like the Glimmermancer and Saltwater Mage. These cards can be freely earned by playing the game and pulling them as rewards from chests. This is what makes Splinterlands fun. You can play the game and strengthen your deck at the same time.
