Start Your Engines - Arcade Colony Moon Karts!
Hello Hive gamers. If you're a fan of arcade type games like racing and shoot 'em ups then you may want to try Arcade Colony Moon Karts. Moon Karts is a kart racing game on Hive developed by Arcade Colony, an affiliate of Splinterlands. It's a fast-paced game and players have the option to play single-player or multiplayer modes. Similar to Mario and other racing games, Moon Karts can be equipped with various accessories and power-ups to enhance gameplay. Players can earn Colony tokens from winning races.
To start playing Arcade Colony Moonkarts, a player need NFTs. You can either get them by buying Alpha Centauri packs or buying individual cards from the in game market. Each Alpha Centauri pack costs 5,000 Credits or 5 Script. For the purpose of this post, let's go to the in game market.
Which NFTs to Buy
The minimum NFTs needed are a kart and a driver then it's your choice to buy tech cards, power ups and accessories to make your kart more competitive. You also have choices to buy NFTs based on their rarities. Of course, the higher rarities are more costly while common cards are the cheapest. You can build a racing set up of kart, driver and accessories for $1 or less using common cards but this will not be competitive and difficult to control. If you want to win races then I suggest building a racing set up with an epic kart as your base NFT.
Building a competitive racing set up
Kart
To build a racing set-up, the kart is the most important place to start. The kart is the key NFT when building your racing setup. Its rarity and level determine how many Tech Cards, Power-Ups, and Accessories you can equip. The higher the rarity and level, the more customization options you get to boost your stats. For the kart, I highly recommend the Quasar Sport. A level one Quasar Sport is now available in the market for $7.50.
At level one, the Quasar Sport has 114.1 speed while its health, acceleration and handling is at 60. It has three slots open for tech cards, accessories and power ups. We can build a competitive racing set-up with these stats and slots availability.
Driver
The driver is required but the tech, power-ups and accessories are optional. Of course, having more NFTs means your kart will have increased stats. For the driver, I'll recommend rare cards. Rare cards only cost less than $1 and close in price to common cards while having better stats. If you have more budget then maybe you can choose epic cards which costs over $2 per card.
Vortex stats are focused on speed (23.6) and health (20.2) while not much on acceleration (6.9) and handling (8.5). She is ideal for maximum speed while making your kart durable against attacks and bumps from other racers. One copy of Vortex card cost $0.45 in the market. There are other drivers who provide more boosts on other stats like handling and acceleration. Choosing which boosts a driver provide depends on your racing style.
Tech Cards
Tech Cards will boost your kart with stats like speed, acceleration, health and handling. The Quasar Sport has three slots for tech cards that you can equip.
Engine Tune Up $0.95 | Tire Tread $0.69 | Body Enhancement $0.40 |

An Engine Tune Up costs $0.95 in the market and gives you a boost in speed of 56.1 and acceleration of 2.6. Tire Tread will also increase speed by 10.9, acceleration of 2.1 and handling of 31.5 for $0.69. Body Enhancement will increase health by 31.5 and acceleration of 2.1 for $0.40. The total cost of tech cards is $2.04.
Accessories
Accessories also provide additional stats to your kart's speed, health, acceleration and handling. There are also a maximum of three accessory slots that a Quasar Sport can equip.
Swift Fin $0.55 | Jet Flow $0.55 | Steady Spin $0.55 |

Swift Fin helps with the kart's stability increasing handling by 1.3. The Jet Flow boosts the kart's speed by 7.9 while Steady Spin increases the kart's acceleration. Each accessory costs $0.55 for a total cost of $1.65.
Power Ups
Power Ups are weapons and defense that you can equip on your kart to disable other racer's karts. One power up can defend against such attacks for a limited time. I did not include Power Ups in my build but you can do so if you have the budget. Power Ups are all common cards but costs a lot. A kart can equip a maximum of five power ups. Power up costs range from $3 to $5.
Lunar Glide | Lunar Bolt | Cosmic Disruptor | Lunar Barrier | Celestial Thrust |

Overall Kart Stats and Total Cost $11.64
The build that I recommended will cost less than $12 based on the market prices. The racing gear will have speed of 213, health of 112, handling of 101 and acceleration of 79. You can customize these stats by picking other drivers, card rarities and levels but the most important is the epic Quasar Sport which I believe provides the best performance vs cost.
