Strategy with the Ulund Bloodline

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome to my blog! In today's post we'll be looking into the Ulund bloodline and how they are played at the highest levels. To be honest, the ulunds are the least in my list while elves are my favorite because of their Execute ability. However, looking at the battles in the leaderboard, using ulunds and their Shield ability is a great strategy that wins battles. We'll be looking at a sample battle, how the team is formed and how they synergize with each other.
Archon

The Ulund/Life archon provides the Deflect ability to all units. This makes her a good archon to use in certain rulesets like Briar Patch, Counterspell and Explosive Weaponry. However, these are situational making her use limited as opposed to the Death archon that gives Close Range ability to units or Elf archon that decreases enemy magic attacks. On the other hand, the ulund archon's bloodline dominion buff has value. She provides the Shield ability to all ulunds, decreasing enemy physical attacks. I've seen some players use an all ulund team to take advantage of the Shield ability especially in battles where magic units are not allowed. This is where ulunds shine.
In the featured battle, we'll be looking at a leaderboard battle against player crusher22 who used the ulunds and infidel1258. If you're not familiar with infidel1258, he's one of the veteran players and youtuber who has a channel about Splinterlands. If you can win against infidel1258 who used Nidhoggr then it's proof that the ulund team is effective.

The ruleset includes Weak Magic making the use of ulunds and their Shield ability a good choice in this ruleset since it can be expected that the enemy will use physical attack units. The team is composed of the following units.
Moribund Arrowbait

Moribund Arrowbait is a legendary card with dual attacks. However, her value is not in her attacks but because of her abilities. Bloodline tribute gives additional stats to all ulund allies when she gets defeated in battle. She has dual attacks so all allies so all ranged and magic units get an attack increase in stats. She also has Rebirth ability making the Bloodline Tribute ability activate twice in battle. This is a huge power up to all ulund allies and this is the reason why this unit is in the frontline. Her role is to sacrifice herself and power up her allies.
Commander Goff

Commander Goff is the only non ulund in this line up. He's a ranged unit but he's being used as an off tank. This is because of his combination of speed and Dodge abilities. He also has great defensive stats of seven armor and eight health coupled with Divine Shield and Resurrect abilities. All these make him a great defensive tank.
Mystic Mudbinder

Mystic Mudbinder is a common unit but being an ulund will take benefit from Moribund Arrowbait's sacrifice. All it's stats will increase by two and she also gets the Shield ability. Her base stats are already decent with three magic attack, three speed, six armor and seven health. She also has the Oppress ability making her a bane against non attack units. She has the Armored Strike ability, giving her a second attack. Finally she has a healing ability making her a good third tank.
Bren Palesworn

Bren Palesworn has the Shapeshift ability, enabling him to benefit from all bloodline buffs. He is a dual attack unit having two ranged and three melee damage. He has the Sneak and True Strike abilities making him an offensive threat against the enemy backline.
Thunderous Herald

Thunderous Herald is another common card that will have huge benefits for being an ulund. It's stats are decent with two magic attack and three speed. On defense it has one armor and eight health. It has great defensive and offensive abilities. It has Enfeeble that will decrease its target's melee attack after each hit. It also has the Execute ability that I like in elves.
Gramel the Hunger

Gramel the Hunger is a legendary card that has three attacks. It deals two melee, magic and ranged damage. It four abilities that makes it an offensive threat and Camouflage that hides it from sneak attackers. It's a highly offensive unit that's further buffed by Bloodline tribute.
The enemy is infidel1258 who still used a magic team inspite of the Weak Magic ruleset. His team was led by the powerful dragon archon Nidhoggr who had a power update months ago making stronger. This still didn't help infidel though as the ulund team pulled off the victory in this battle.

As I fight you occasionally in modern I guess you must have similar frustrations to me. The endless bots using Tofu for one. Tofutards I call them. It is here that the Ulund archon shines as you can ignore all the defensive stuff like thorns etc. You can beat a level 1 Tofu about 50% of the time. That's decent considering according to splinterstats you only have about a 19% vhance of winning if you face one in bronze or silver.
One useful Ulund is the one that costs 10 and fires 4 arrow damage. That's coz at level 5 he heals. You have to rent a decent enough Ulund archon to use it though. Generally in bronze and silver you can get away with not using it though.
I face those a lot and also Lorkus that I'm considering renting myself. I have to crunch the numbers though to see if it's profitable.
Yep the bots with lorkus are a pain in the ass. I haven't got any real cheap counter against him. I just hope for the opportunity to poison them quick. If you are quick enough at the start of the season you can get the human legendary archon that will poison things for just over 100 dec a season. Sorry i forget all the names.
Lorkus is just too expensive to rent.
