New week, new Battle Challenge, this week we will talk about an Element and not about a single card.

This week the subject is the element Dragon.

Before talking about the Element, I want to say that I analyzed it as a Bronze player.

As a relatively new player as a Dragon Summoner, I only own the Drake of Arnak (as a "ghost" card), and I have to use it because Dragon Monsters can be deployed only using a Dragon Summoner.

arnak.png

The Dragon of Arnak is a Summoner that every player can use as a "ghost card" ( a "ghost card" is a card that you don't actually own but that you can use because Splinterlands gives a base set of free cards to start playing). The power of the Dragon Element is that you can choose a supplementary Element to use with it, taking advantage of the powerful Dragon monsters mixed with another Element's Monsters.

The Drake of Arnak gives a +1 bonus in armor, so let's see which "Rules of Combat" are positive to use it with.

combat rules.png

I choose Rules of Combat where +1 Armor can make the difference and where Magic Attacks are less powerful because remember, the Magic Attacks ignore the Armor, except with "Weak Magic" Rules of Combat.

The introduction to the Dragon Element is over, so let's see how I used it in battle:

Rules of Combat: Negative These "Rules of Combat" aren't really positive for a Summoner who gives an Armor bonus, cause the "Keep Your Distance" Rule says: "Monsters with Melee attack type can't be used." So it could be predictable to find a lot of Magic Attacker in the enemy team...so, why should I choose the Dragon Summoner? Because of the "Active Elements" and because I thought about a strategy.

Mana Cap: Positive It is enough to use my strategy.

Active Elements: Positive Both Death and Light Elements usually don't have, in Bronze League, Magic Attackers that can deal with more than 1 damage per hit.

So, considering the possible Opponent's choices I opted for this team, I used the Void Dragon as a Tank and in the second line, I choose Light's supports to help it shine.

void dragon.png

As you can see the Void Dragon for a relatively low mana cost can perform really well as a Tank, especially if Melee Monsters are not usable. Considering its two abilities and its speed, it can resist the Magic Attacks and avoid the eventual Physical Ranged damages.

Please Note:

High-Speed stat + Flying are important factors to consider.

truthspeaker.png

I placed the Truthspeaker in the second position, a mistake, considering that the Opponent could choose monsters with the Snipe ability to target the second monster in my formation, but I needed it to further protect my Tank and honestly, I realized my error too late.

time mage.png

In the third position, I deployed the Time Mage, a super useful card, with the Slow ability, to increase the Speed difference between my Tank and the Opponent's Monsters. (Considering the Void Dragon's Void ability, I had only to worry about Ranged Attackers).

For more insights about the Time Mage click here, where I wrote about it.

venari crystalsmith.png

In the last position, I placed the Venari Crystalsmith with its wonderful ability Tank Heal to make the Void Dragon even more resilient, because it could re-gain 1/3 of its health per turn.

The strategy was set, let's see if it worked:

As expected my Opponent chose numerous Magic Attack Monsters, and the Void Dragon didn't have to worry about them and their Life Leech ability. Unfortunately, as I feared, the Opponent used a Monster with the Snipe ability, and killed my Truthspeaker, but the strategy was strong and I managed to win.

The Death Elemental shines in my Opponent's team that eliminated two of my second line Monsters.

As you can see it is a really interesting card with a useful ability.

But, nice ability or not, I won:

Final Consideration: the Dragon Element is the most versatile Element for a Summoner in Splinterlands cause it can mix the powerful Dragon Cards with other Elements Monsters.

Furthermore, this battle has demonstrated that with the right strategy, even if the "Rules of Combat" are not positive for an Element, you can manage to win, because Splinterlands is a Strategy game with a lot of different possible choices.
