Magalli's "SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! FLYING SQUID!"
New week, new battle challenge!
Let's talk about the Flying Squid!
1 ) Mana cost: 7 High Mana cost, but the other stats justify it.
2 ) Melee Attack: 2 Not really high, but enough to ignore the Shield ability.
3 ) Speed: 3 Nice speed considering that it could be used with the Kelya Frendul Summoner.
4 ) Expansion: Chaos Legion I highlighted that because in the near future the Expansion of a card will be essential to know if it is playable in the Modern format or in the Wild format (MF: playable only in the last two Expansions that came out on Splinterlands, WF: every Expansion is playable).
5 ) Health: 8 Really high stat, it allows the Flying Squid to be useful even versus Magic Decks.
6 ) Element: Water It means that it can be used only with Water and Dragon Summoners.
7 ) Reach: Really useful ability, the Flying Squid can attack from the second position, considering its Health stat it is like playing with two tanks (when the Mana Cap is high enough).
Please note: the Flying Squid has no Armor.
The Flying Squid is particularly useful in a few Rule of Combat, but it doesn't mean it is useless in others:
It is really useful when Melee Attack Monsters lose abilities to attack from the second lines, when there's no armor, and when all Monsters have the Blast Ability thanks to its high Health Stat.
Let's see the battle!
Rules Of Combat: Neutral These Rules are slightly positive for the Flying Squid because it can Melee Attack the Opponent's tank and it will not be able to be healed.
Mana Cap: Positive To correctly use the Flying Squid we need a high Mana Cap considering that it has a high Mana cost and to be totally useful it needs to be behind another Tank, and Tanks have an important Mana cost most of the time.
Active Elements: Neutral There's the risk to find Armored Monsters, but we are covered by our Magic Attackers in our Second Lines.
Summoner: Kelya Frendul Great Summoner, it gives a bonus to Armor and Speed, increasing Monsters' chances to survive.
The Strategy: The strategy was really simple, the Water Decks has a lot of high Mana cost cards, I just used them all in the most clever way possible maximizing their chances to attack every round from every spot, taking advantage of their high Attack, Health, and (boosted) Armor stats.
In the first position:
High Armor and High Health, in High Mana cost battles it is difficult to take advantage of its ability, but it is a nice Tank.
Obviously, in the second position, I place the Monster with the Reach ability:
Perfect choice for the second position in a high Mana cap battle.
Then I place a "cleaner":
Perfect choice to remove all low Health Opponent's Monsters.
In the fourth spot I placed my favorite Legendary reward card:
Amazing card, with an ability really useful versus Magic Decks and a High-Speed stat always useful to avoid Opponent's Monsters attacks.
Then I placed another reward card, just to further boost the Armor stat of all my Monsters:
And in the end I placed another high Mana cost card:
Thanks to its high Magic Attack and Health it can deal a lot of damages while resisting to eventual Monsters with the Sneak ability.
Let's see the battle:
My Opponent went for High Mana cost Monsters too, but they wasted some spots, placing Monsters that couldn't attack, so I was really calm, I had more attacks per round.
The Flying Squid died, but it was a 4 vs 3 Monsters battle, and my Monsters were Healthier.
I managed to win thanks to my strategy.
Final Consideration: The Flying Squid is a really nice Second Line Monster but it needs an high Mana cap to really shine.
The Flying Squid leveling up becomes really an interesting card, I just need to buy some Kelya Frendul...like some hundreds.

Magalli

Flying Squid was a great secondary tank for you in this battle. Not too many monsters with Reach are both tanky and hard-hitting.

I totally agree, especially considering it was a level 1 card.
