This about Hive?

Steemitinc, stinc, took 2 years to let the bid bots gather loot while doing near zero development.
This was intentional, apparently.
I call it the kneecappening, because steem definitely dropped from the #3 crypto on the planet to sub#100 following that time.

Does Hive tick any more of the boxes

Hive doesn't sell your data, but anybody with access to the full chain could be.
Everything is public.

It's not that I think hive will complete plan xanadu but that some of people 'in charge' are working towards that end.
Hive will be what the proof of stake consensus makes of it.

Ah yes, the governance side of the chain... I get the feeling few people are deeply involved in that. Or at leat a minority of account-holders. I know I'm not. Maybe in time that could change. Where to begin is the big question... Picking through witness posts I guess, piecing everything together, making the connections. How to go from a newbie on-chain trying to make decent content to an informed witness voter...? 'Tis the question. 'Tis the question...

Reps and dems are just bought and paid for puppets.

Where to begin is the big question...

I'd start by looking through those not in the top 20.
By supporting only witnesses as they fall out of the top 20 can we learn which are not favored by the current 'controlling obsoletes'.
Those not favored, excepting 'bad actors', are probably the ones to support.
IF you don't like how things currently are.

I'm impartial, but only because I'm new here and therefore quite ignorant to it all; history of the chain and whatnot. But it's good advice you give, thank you. Are all witness votes equal in value or is it stake-weighted too, like curation votes?

Witness votes are stake weighted.

The chain is much, much better than before the fork to hive.
Many of the greediest were run off at that time.
It also became easier to enforce the 'original content, every time' standard then, too.
We are early still.
Buy more hive.
