Trump’s Tariff Policies: As Unpredictable as Global Warming’s Chaos

The World may be in danger of Global warming repercussions, but everyone feels the World has got a new season this year. Yes, you guessed it– it’s the Trump Tariff season!!

It has shown it has characteristics of unpredictability, uncertainty, just like today’s Global warming wrapped seasons, no one can predict the weather. It can be extra hot, no regularity in rain schedules or their intensity. Nothing’s normal, nothing’s in order!!

No wonder President Trump is not the type who promotes economic players – industries, companies to shift to green energy. He is cool with them emitting smoke, for business and profits need freedom and them making efforts to curb emissions, shift to cleaner and non-polluting ways of functioning, hinders their profits according to Trump.

That’s President Donald Trump for us all and one wonders if he has a Tariff phobia now!! Where did he catch this Tariff phobia?

Trump again stumbles as certain Chinese products receive the Tariff pardon!!

Now, Trump’s Tariffs even on China flip-flops now!! I would explain the reason behind this in my next article.

China, last week got imposed powerful Tariff levies – 125% and then 145% but according to the current US administration, it's only reciprocal Tariffs and 20 category of Chinese products imports are exempt from it!

So, what are these products, Shall we see?

Trump’s administration is hard at work to impose new Tariff rates on these 20 category of products which will come under semi-conductor Tariff rate!

Now, everyone must have understood the kind of products which has received the Trump pardon from those 125% plus tariff rates!!

These are electronic category of products – semiconductors (of course), smart phones, laptops, computers, memory chips, disc drives etc.

Apple Dodges Price Hikes—For Now—As Tariffs Spare Key Imports!!

Companies like Apple who has built supply chain capacity in China, where majority of production and assembly of iphones happen, would not for the time period be forced to make their products pricey for American Consumers with the import of Apple iphones now being excused from the Steep reciprocal Tariffs.

However, as mentioned earlier these products imported from China, will have another Tariff rate, maybe a relatively a soft one.

Are Foreign Semiconductors a National Security Threat? Trump Seems to Think So

Trump administration says that the Tariff rate is only intended to make companies invest and begin manufacturing products in America.

Trump strongly feels that semiconductors need to be produced at America for foreign semiconductors imported from China may pose a National security risk for the American Nation!

This is why an investigation would be done on national security risks posed by foreign semiconductors, based on which new Tariff rates could be fixed!!

China’s Tariff are always extra compared to other countries – Wonder why?

Yet all products imported from China are doomed to have a special Tariff rate, harder than it is for import tariffs imposed on other Countries!!

So, while all other country imports have a 10% Tariff rate, China has it double; ie, 20% even on the above highlighted exempted electronic products!!

One may wonder why Trump holds a grudge with China while with other countries he is willing to have soft 10% tariffs with paused reciprocal tariff rates set to be imposed 3 months later on July 9th.

The answer derived from Trump’s speeches seem to be China gets fentanyl penalty – as Trump claims China exports huge amounts of fentanyl to USA harming health of American Citizens!!!

So, one can safely say Trump holds a fentanyl grudge against China!!

Trump’s Administration is open to negotiate soft Tariff rates during Trump’s 90 day Tariff pause period with most of it’s trading partners – United Kingdom, the European Union, India, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and Israel, but not China for sure!!

No benefit for Companies in establishing a manufacturing base in USA!!

One aspect is certain, that everyone sees US as an untrusty trading partner. Besides that, right now under Trump, USA does not have a fixed stance on it’s Trade policy, announcing hard Tariff rates one day , then softening, postponing. This only dissuades companies from investing in America as the country lacks a binding trade policy framework!

America’s labour resource costs are high and products can be produced cheaper in countries like China, India, Vietnam, South Korea where labour, raw material, production costs are much lower.

Also, there’s a definite hostile approach in how America treats its trading partners both friends and foes, with Trump leading it with his really brash Tariff approach!

Now, there’s currently a lot of fear that Trump is steering America into a Recession, and provably into a crisis worst than recession, like stagflation!

But will his administration – his advisors and other Republican party representatives tame Trump, while they can, knowing Trump is prone to cause Global Economic collapse. Is there no force to stop him? Put sense into him?. Let’s see!!
