Hand Weeding of planted Okro, Irrigation process and proper care.
Hello Hive
Happy New week to all my passionate gardeners I hope that we all are finding it smooth and easy.
It is the start of the new week and guess what work continues in every direction. House chores, sewing and gardening/homesteading.
I started my day by completing some online tasks here, made a blog post before heading to the farm about the evening time to check on the growing okro.
Virtually everything planted here is doing quite well especially the okro. Sooner than later it will start flowering and when that happens fruit production is near.
During the mid days of last week we have engaged in wedding this farm to pull up the weeds that were fast catching up with the okra plants. Weeding is an essential care process for all crops. Once grasses begin to grow fast and catch up with planted crops, growth is slowed down and various symptoms can be noticeable; we all understand how much these can reduce yield.
The ground was really hard, and pulling up the weeds was quite a task. Although we were going to wet the okra plants, that would be ideally done after weeding. The soil here is a smooth clay-loam, and if we wet it before weeding, we may have to struggle in the mud for the weeding.
It took about 2 hours to clear the space, and another challenge came up right after we were done weeding. The generator set refused to pump water. At first we thought that it was a minor plug issue and went ahead to change the plug, but that didn't help out either. It was already too late, and we couldn't call the engineer to check on the engine.
It is outright appropriate to wet this okro right after weeding, and sometimes while weeding we add a little bit of soil to the plant's roots to cover them up afterwards; wetting is done to perfect the tasks. Any plant can easily die off if this process is taken lightly.
The machine was taking off the farm to town for servicing. And since the holidays are over it will be returned to the farm today to continue work. Irrigation must be consistently done at least twice a week to keep away the hot suns temperature that causes crops to wither easily in this season.
Hopefully we will be Checking on the farms this evening as it is very necessary to keep off both domestic animals that walk in to damage crops here.
The stream looks small.
My mind is telling me that you're going to drought the Stream/pond. Lol😂
