Into The Mixing Bowl Vol. 1 _ Green Mario

Mario + Piranha Plant.jpg

This is the first in a series of posts sharing the results from messing with Midjourney's remix mode. Not much of a story here beyond that, really. Merging different images just to see what happens.

Back when the company allowed free trials of their product, I spent a few moments learning the ropes and playing around. One of those days I wondered what I'd get merging these two:

MarioPiranha Plant

Of course, there's Mario. Probably the most recognisable fictional plumber on Earth. Then there's Piranha Plant; a mainstay antagonist species of the franchise, chomping up pipes in their cartoonishly terrifying way since day one.

Super Mario Bros. 1985

Just a thought: does Mario have a surname? Is it "Mario?" Like, if the two siblings are known as the Super Mario Brothers, does that mean their last name is actually Mario?

Two brothers, they are super, family name: "Mario." Makes sense, right?

It's-a-me, Mario Mario!

No wonder the other fellow always seems a bit down. What was his name again? Perpetually overshadowed by the protagonist older brother. I uh, can't remember. It's on the tip of my tongue. What ever was his name?

Yeet.

Well, here's a couple results from the mergification that turned out alright:

How the tables have turned

Piranhio Plant?

Slightly horrifying, yeah?
There's some very slight close-up jank in the composites, of course, as "the AI" is wont to do, but the overall image quality carries through. Not sure why the model made the background grey though?

Here's a thought: imagine a modded version of a Mario game where instead you play as the Piranha Plant. Same gameplay and platformer level design as the main series, but with a full role-swap. All the player characters from the original are now enemies; freakish hybrids like this here Piranhio Plant, and the enemies in turn become playable characters. Nice! Interesting dynamics to explore, like what kind of power ups would a Piranha Plant have? Could you just eat all the enemies? How do you move?

You seen the new Super Mario Bros. Movie? Saw it a few days ago. My housemates both fell asleep within the first fifteen minutes and I can't blame them. It was pretty crap.

Got any interesting Mario stories or discoveries? Here's one from me:

Mari0 is Mario with a Portal gun.

From the developers:

Two genre defining games from completely different eras: Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. and Valve's Portal. These two games managed to give Platformers and First-Person Puzzle Games a solid place in the video game world. But what if Nintendo teamed up with Valve and recreated the famous Mario game with Portal gun mechanics?

Well, that's about enough of all that for one day. I'll do this again soon, but with different characters in the mixing bowl. What did you think of the new Mario movie? Generic visual spectacle for kids with hackneyed references and cameos strung together to cover over where a story should be? Or was your experience more enjoyable? Sharing is daring! Care to opine on something that doesn't matter in the slightest?

'til next time!
