RE: The Dynamic Heart and the Work of Grace: Foundations of Progressive Sanctification in Biblical Counseling

Dr. Wood mentions that the Bible is commonly disregarded today in the treatment of soul problems, when the real answer relies on God’s power working through sanctification. In the Westminster Standards, Sanctification is defined not as our ability to work a change within ourselves, but as a supernatural act of God wherein He imputes to us a new heart, and helps us to turn from all our sin. In biblical counseling the center point of attention is the heart, because it is the origin of all that we think, do, feel and will. In examination of the heart's heat, or its hardships in life we can assess whether we are yielding the fruit of God's grace or the thorns of sin. Only by God's provision can true heart transformation be achieved.

Yes, that's a distinctive view of change in biblical counseling that many find strange.
