Arguing with the wrong person

Making an argument is a totally normal thing to do, and there are objective and subjective arguments. There are facts and there are opinions, and when you bring out either one of them, not everyone you discuss it with will agree with you, and that leads to what we all call an argument.

An argument is not necessarily supposed to be bad because it's human nature to discuss and debate things for people to come to the right conclusion.

However, who you argue with can determine whether you successfully come to a good conclusion or a bad one, or worst case scenario, the argument never ends.

Now the worst case scenario usually happens when you're arguing with a fool (with all due respect). I can try to sugar coat this but there are wise people and there are fools and whether a person is wise or foolish can be seen from the decisions they make.

Whether wise or foolish, we're human beings subject to mistakes. Just because you made a mistake doesn't make you a fool. It's actually when you keep making the same mistake, you get corrected by people that understand what you're going through and even have results to show for, and yet, you decide not to listen and keep doing what is wrong.

Arguing with someone like that is basically like wrestling a pig.

Arguing with fools is like wrestling a pig. Both of you get dirty, but the pig enjoys the match.

Although I initially intended to just make it into a simple meme, it holds good wisdom and that can save you a lot of time in your life because, an argument that will never end due to the fact that someone just wants to keep it going is a complete waste of time.

A fool does not care about truth, a fool only wants to win.

He may twist his words, shout louder because he thinks being louder means he's winning or if you lay down facts that is hard for him to argue with, he goes straight up to insulting you.

The minute you try to answer a fool, you step right into his world. If you keep playing along, soon, you'll realize you're starting to sound angry, confused or silly, when naturally you're wise.

That is when you get dirty like wrestling with the pig. The pig doesn't see dirty as a problem, it's having fun but you are the one with a problem and you would have to do the work of washing yourself after that argument.

Why does a pig enjoy dirt? Or the question I'll answer is why does a fool enjoy an endless pointless argument?

It's really because the fool feels strong in confusion and the chaos he's been able to create and drag you into.

He likes the attention you're giving to him so even if he is wrong, he feels good that you are wasting your time on him and that's a win for him and a loss for you, so basically by arguing with the fool, you have really lost.

He really enjoys seeing you upset, it makes him feel important that he did that to you. You're fuelling the whole thing when you keep answering.

It happens everywhere, especially on social media. You may bump into some long comment fights. Of course not all long comments are signs that there's a fool, some of them are genuinely discussing a topic and there's so much to learn when you read such comments.

It's ridiculous when you actually see one, people argue for hours, but at the end, nothing changes. So what was the point of all that wasted time since nobody in that argument learned anything, grew or had an experience that would make them better. The only thing that happened was that precious time was wasted.

But after that event, the fool walks away smiling, while you walk away tired. Ain't it crazy?

So what should we do when we notice we just started answering a fool? My best advice is the minute you notice this person won't listen to facts but hold firmly to what's proven wrong, you stop the discussion or the argument respectfully and walk away to save your precious time. Time is life, don't waste it on baseless arguments.

There's a saying that some fights are won by not fighting, this is exactly one of the those fights, an argument with a fool is won by not arguing at all, or if you mistakenly entered that argument unknowingly, you stop it right there.

Best to learn when and when not to argue with someone... even if you are correct.

I had to learn that I had a weird need to be correct at all times. Once I stopped correcting people and just focused on peace, my life became much easier.
