Constitution Stops Trump From Running as U.S president in 2028

Donald Trump says he understands that the Constitution prohibits him from standing for president for the third term. He spoke on the Air Force One and made this precise statement.

“If you read it, it’s pretty clear,” he said to reporters, “I’m not allowed to run. It’s too bad.”

Well not too bad for everyone, because some can't wait to see him off the seat and probably wish it was happening this year instead.

The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution only allows presidents to serve out two terms in office. This president began his second term in January.

That particular law is very clear and direct and was written to prevent any president from staying in power too long. Very necessary if the president is either under performing or not performing well at all. Based on the policies, decisions and changes Trump brought in just few months being president, we've seen and experienced the outcome. This is not about which political party you belong, it's about facts, things have gotten worse than they've gotten better.

A day earlier, Trump said he would love to run again in 2028. Of course, those who support him pushed the idea on social media and the internet. Some of them even wore hats with the inscription "Trump 2028". They were seen in the Oval Office.

Former adviser Steve Bannon made a claim that there was a plan to change the rules and made it known to some reporters that people close to Trump were working on it.

However the legal experts judging this case know this would take years and require both houses of Congress and most states to approve and so far, his reputation with individual states has not been that good. So chances are, it won't happen and most people don't expect that to happen.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said he spoke with Trump about the issue. Johnson told him that a third term was simply not possible. He said, "The president knows the limits. But Trump did not fully confirm this version of the conversation. What Trump said was "Based on what I read, I guess I’m not allowed to run. So we’ll see what happens."

That last line “we’ll see” fits a pattern of Trump. He likes to leave options open. Because in a way it keeps his base engaged and also fuels media attention.

His supporters suggested another path for him. They suggested that he could run as vice president. Then, if the president is to resign, Trump would take over. He didn't like the idea apparently and called it "too cute."

Regardless of what they say or do, facts are facts. The 22nd Amendment stops any third term. The courts would block any attempt to ignore this law. Even his allies that are in Congress say the rule is final and cannot be changed.

Trump tests the limits of the law while claiming to respect it. He is probably running on the concept of attention economy, attention keeps his movement alive. Trump’s power comes from keeping people talking. But regardless of what is said, the law will take effect in 2028.
