Dear Haters👀
Do you know when you've made progress in life? The minute everyone suddenly has an opinion about you. People who make a mark get noticed and get talked about a lot.
Last month, I landed a dream promotion at work, did a little celebration with my besties. I was doing the wrong thing by expecting congratulations from all friends and family.
I instead got a mix of genuine support and some very obvious passive aggressive comments that really caught me off guard, I could swear I didn't expect it from the people that did it.
Haters are not a constant of life for everyone. It's not like you'll get a hater by default, they are not random too, they only show up precisely when you're doing something right.
Anyone you see criticizing someone is not doing it just for some fun, they won't waste their energy on someone who's sitting still and making no significant difference that can create some form of jealousy.
When you're doing little average things, and staying in your little comfortable bubble of a life and not making any move that'll rock someone's boat, you're basically invisible to the critics.
It's only when you start shining, taking risks that yield profits and actually succeeding that people suddenly have so much to say about your choices, the way you talk, walk and even your facial expressions.
You could walk with confidence and swagger and nobody would have a problem with it if you're broke, but let's just say you won the lottery or made a big positive change in your life and finance, suddenly the same walk is seen as pride.
There are some very passive aggressive statements I can never forget someone making when I decided to start a new business online. I had to pass the information to some friends for the sake of publicity.
An old school mate I thought was supportive clearly wasn't, she sent me a text saying, "Hope it works out better than your last idea". That cut me deep but I've matured enough to know how to handle such remarks.
The real secret truth is that the hateful comments your haters make are really not about you, but actually about them. Your success is making their failure more obvious and that's why they're responding in a way to hopefully discourage you.
Your success is making them uncomfortable and instead of using that discomfort as motivation, they chose criticism.
The beautiful irony about this is that every negative comment they pass about you, every eye roll, every "she thinks she's so special" passive aggressive remark is actually proof that you're on the right track. You're basically threatening the status quo, and that makes people nervous.
With age comes wisdom and here's some wisdom, start treating hate like a GPS for success. The louder the criticism gets, the more confident you become that you're heading in the right direction. So long as it's destructive criticism and not constructive ones, don't let it stop you from moving on.
It's funny because the energy they used in tearing you down could have been used to build themselves up, but they've chosen differently, that shouldn't influence your decision against yourself.
Don't ever let their choice become your problem, it's their problem. While they're busy crafting the perfect passive aggressive comment, be busy crafting your perfect life and making more progress.
Fact of life, every successful person has haters. Show me someone without critics and I'll show you someone who's never tried anything worthwhile or worth talking about. Your objective should not be to avoid the hate, because haters gonna hate always, your objective should be to use it as fuel.
Fuel to Keep winning.
