Don't waste more time doing that
At some point you'll make some decisions that'll lead to your time and life getting wasted. What do you do then, you regret it, it's disappointing because you could have done better.
But there's a quote by Mason Cooley and it says;
Regret of time wasted is wasting more time
If you've watched the movie Argylle, it was quoted in that movie and that's what made the quote more famous. This is as real as I can get with anyone if I am asked to give them a word of advice.
All the time you've lost cannot be regained, and now for some reason, you decided to spend more time thinking about all the time that was lost. That's the logic behind this quote. While you think about lost time which you can't get back since you don't have a time machine, you're actually wasting more time.
You're a human being, subject to mistakes, you're basically bound to make them. Just walk circumspectly to avoid making mistakes you can't correct but for regularly mistakes you'll definitely make them.
Two choices in this situation, spend time regretting that silly statement you made which you can't take back, that relationship you entered which you wish you hadn't, that investment you made that blew in your face. Or learn from your mistakes quickly and move on as fast as you can.
The past is gone and the only benefit it has for you are lessons to be learned. Yes you could have done better, you didn't, get over it, put some bandaid on it, rub some dirt on it, pick yourself up from the ground, and onwards you go to meet the future, having learned and gotten better.
All the emotions you're giving to the past mistake, the anger, the guilt and the sadness won't change it. Those emotions are not the remedy or the tools to make some sort of time machine for you. It doesn't add to the solution if you're just regretting, rather what adds is change.
You can change today but not yesterday and dwelling on what you cannot change stops you from doing what you can now. It will hold you back and keep you from moving forward.
You're a student who failed a test last month, it's been a month and you're still thinking about that F you got... wow. You should have studied harder, you didn't, you wasted the study time, are you now going to risk failing the next exam by wasting the new study time on that F you had last month or are you going to learn from your mistake and put in the work. It's your choice.
This is a powerful quote. You really need to focus on the present and the future. What you're doing today to get what you want tomorrow. And like I said, yesterday cannot be changed, its role is to give you the tools to do better today to make progress tomorrow.
Time they say waits for no man, so while you waste it, it won't forgive you. Don't forget that every day, every hour and every minute is an opportunity to learn, grow and improve so if you're going to keep looking back, you're bound to miss the chance to use your time wisely. You cannot go back, but you sure as hell can control what you do next.
Don't be hard on yourself if you've regretted before, it's because you still give a fuck and that's natural but use the regret as a lesson not a trap to waste more time.
