Never forget what you are - Game of thrones
Another day, another movie to learn so much from. One of the most famous series of all time is undoubtedly Game of thrones. It's packed with so much quotes and wise sayings. I could create a whole script about it but I'll pick one line that was my favorite.
It's a quote by character Tyrion Lannister, the dwarf.
“Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.”
It may seem lik a rather simple quote but it does have a strong life lesson. The world will always notice what makes you different. We're all unique in our own way and that way is what will be recognized. Perhaps it’s how you look or where you’re from or how you speak or even what you believe.
The sad thing is that people might use those things to judge you or make you feel small. They have created a standard of what is good and falling below that will trigger their judgement of what makes you you.
But you're not supposed to take what they say about you as law, if you accept who you are and feel proud of it, no one can use it to hurt you. One of my favorite comedians is Kevin Hart. He's made a living off of comedy and one smart he said falls in line with what I'm trying to say. He's 5ft 4 and usually made fun of for being short. But as a stand up comedian he makes fun of himself, happy to be short, has money to change and make his legs longer but still doesn't want to because he accepts who he is. He's a unique comedian and actor because of his humor and his height.
With just the humor he would have be a normal good comedian but embracing his height made him stand out. The thing they'll use against you, you should use it for your benefit before they even speak and that's going to get them to stop
Whenever you try to hide your truth, others can turn it against you. But when you show it with confidence, it becomes your strength, it becomes your own weapon. Wearing your identity like armor means you are not ashamed of who you are. I'm not saying be ok with yourself when you can be better but being better starts from accepting yourself and seeing what could become of you if you work harder on yourself.
By using this approach, you are not trying to fit in or be someone else but standing strong in your truth.
We all have something that makes us different that's why I rarely consider a person as a normal person, what's the standard of normal? And who said so right? Instead of hiding it, we should wear it proudly. That is how we protect ourselves. That is how we grow stronger. That's how we become winners. Allow the world to see you for who you really are and work to be better.
When you own your story, no one else can control it.
