Put your money where your mouth is

There’s this guy in my area selling phone accessories and some electrical supplies by the junction and he has comments about everything. He’ll talk about anything, from politics to football to marriage. A few months ago he was talking about reporting the people blocking the sidewalk to the city. He said he knows the assembly man and has connections to politicians and he'll call them. I called bullshit in my head because he was a middle aged man and I didn't want to disrespect him by saying he's bluffing. Well the sidewalk is blocked now.

I keep observing this concept. People talk a big game and act as if they’re committed to worthy causes, but when they’re needed and when he time comes to put action behind their own words, they vanish. They not only broke their promise but also let everyone else down who believed that they would keep it.

When it comes to the time to put your money where your mouth is, words mean something. It may come at a cost to you, your reputation, your ego, perhaps even friends. When someone is talking but does not have the money to pay the price, to me they are just wasting their breath.

Such people are almost always disrespectful as well. It seems like they don’t mind what people think or how they listen and even if they invest their time in the conversation actually. There's no problems if you are person who doesn't talk much. It's only few people that don't only speak up when it matters but also back it up consistently.

You won’t believe this but the junction guy has changed his opinion now. His focus is on the roads. I went back home laughing so much hard.
